Below Deck Season 2 Premiere Review

Chef Roble & Co

Bravo’s hit show, Below Deck, is hitting the ocean for Season 2 tonight, August 12th at 9PM! With it comes a mostly new crew, a new vessel, and new scenarios that the crew will be facing. With that being said the same reality aspect of a group of crew members living and working aboard a mega yacht is still there and it is better than ever. Bravo has a great series here and from the premiere episode of season 2, they already have me hooked in and wanting to see more. Let’s dive into our full thoughts of the premiere of Below Deck season 2!

The setup and feel of the show, is pretty much the same and that is a good thing, the editors and producers did the right thing here. Bringing back some of the crew members was a nice touch as well. First of all the Honor motor yacht is out and Ohana, a 153′ mega yacht is here and back at the helm once again is Captain Lee! In the first episode we see him at the dock in the in the British Virgin Islands, as he awaits the vessel. But they have to wait for the boat to come and find a nice place to stay on land, where he greets the whole crew.

Chef Ben, Ben Robinson to be exact, is back and his quest to create whatever the guest desires is ongoing, in the first episode alone, we see his unique take on classics like chicken fingers, as a southern client, doesn’t want anything fancy. Also, joining Captain Lee and Chef Ben, is Kat Held, who is back, yes Captain Lee decided to bring her back! She had a bit of an issue last year with drinking and taking responsibility, but in the end she pulled through. Lastly, Eddie is back but no longer is he a deckhand, but he is now the Bosun, and Lee was quite happy to have him back. He seemed to be one of the people last season, who truly enjoyed it and showed an interest for yachting and improving his career.

Then we have the new comers, which includes a brother and sister duo, Amy and Kelley Johnson, and it seems that their views and workmanship might led to some controversy. In fact Amy and Kat have worked together before and their relationship did not end so smoothly. We start to see how they feel about rooming together and the dirt they have on each other very quickly, for instance Amy feels that Kat has changed quite a bit, but Kat doesn’t necessarily feel the same way. Andrew Sturby, seems really good at screwing things up or at least that’s what Kat thinks and I have to say that she might just be right and it doest turn out he is the character you will love to hate. From the first moment we see him, we realize he might not be the most qualified. The new Adrienne or rather new chief stewardess is Kate Chastain from Melbourne Beach who was the most famous person there, in fact her reason for getting into yachting was to find a rich husband. From the sneak peak we get of the rest of the season, at the end of the episode, it will certainly leave you with many unanswered questions, several about her. Last but not least we have the female deckhand Jennice Ontiveros who wants to travel the world, but the biggest surprise to the rest of the crew is that she is a female deckhand, which is not the most common thing. However I have a feeling she will be able to prove herself quite quickly.

To say the least the premiere episode will leave you wanting more, we get to see the dynamic of the new crew starting to form and there will be good times and bad times ahead. But definitely tune into the premiere of season two, it will leave you wanting more and you will get a few good laughs as well. You can see a full gallery from the episode below! Below Deck Season 2 premiere’s tonight on Bravo at 9PM EST/PST and will be airing new episodes on Tuesdays.
