Lenovo N20p Chromebook Review; A Super Affordable Chromebook That Still Performs!

N20p Chrome_02

Lenovo’s first dip into the consumer Chromebook market is the N20p, and this builds off of their educational Chromebooks. In fact these computers that run Chrome have taken off this year, with faster processors and new features, but the big story here is that they are supposed to keep growing. Lenovo is not the first one to join in on the Chromebook fun, but instead they are coming at a time with many other Chrome devices on the market. The N20p comes in an affordable range at the Chromebook market, the unit we are testing in comes in at $329. Keep reading to see our full thoughts of the N20p.

For starters, it continues Lenovo multi mode movement, which has pretty much spread to the entire computer market. So when you first look at the device, you are greeted which what looks like an affordable computer, specifically a dark grey and silver laptop. The front of the device is home to a Lenovo logo and Chrome logo. The right hand side is power button, a USB port, and an SD card slot. The left hand side is home to a mini HDMI port, a headphone jack,  a power port, and a USB port. Overall, a very clean and portable design, when you open up the laptop you will notice the unique hinge that creates the multi mode design. You will also find a very nice keyboard, a simple trackpad, and a Lenovo logo. The 11.6-inch HD display, takes up most of the device, but you do get some bezel along with a webcam above it. There is a space between the hinge and the top of the clamshell, this makes for a unique design as well.

In terms of speed on the device, Chromebooks are fast for several reasons, Lenovo choose to power the N20p with a Intel Celeron N2830 processor along with 2GB of RAM. And this makes for a very nice experience when using the device, of course the Chrome OS is a very speedy and well tuned operating system. It can work really well with an internet connection, but it does have offline mode. Meaning that you can make applications work when there is no connection, this comes in really handy if you have to write a paper for class or if you want to play some games. Almost all of the applications that I encountered work well with offline mode. A great unique feature of offline mode is that if your email is synced, which it atomically does, you can still read and draft emails, plus those emails you draft will send once you get an internet connection. Plus, if you plan on using this in class or at the office, Microsoft Offices are very friendly with Google Drive applications.

The 11.6-inch HD 1366 X 768 display is the most high-end display available, but it doesn’t have to be. Given that the N20p is an affordable Chromebook is fairs very well up against the competition. Color looks pretty nice, but at times white and lighter colors can be overpowering and not as precise. When I tested this out at work, with writing articles, or at school with typing essays, it performed very well. And word typing and reading is very easy on the display, the backlight does not hurt the eyes too much. Since it is touchscreen having the multimode functionality is great, in fact if you want to share a presentation with a small group just flip it over and you full touch control. It also locks the keyboard when you put it in tent mode and if you have to type, an on screen keyboard will come up.

Lastly, you will get all day power on the ultra-portable N20p. It has a 34.8 Wh battery inside, which Lenovo says should give you around 8 hours, with more usage that involves games and heavy streaming, I think you might be brought closer to the 8:30-9:00 hours mark. But with word processing, checking email, creating power points, and other classroom or work activities, I got around 10:30-11:00 hours of battery life, which was really fantastic.

The bottom line with the Lenovo N20p is that it is a phenomenal affordable Chromebook. If you are looking for a portable laptop to use at school or in class, I would highly suggest the N20p. It can also be great as a first time computer, but it does have some limitations with the operating system, it could perform really well in the office. Lenovo gave it a portable multimode design which will allow you to get more out of the product. It is also comes in at an affordable $329, but you can get it from others retails for around $300. If you are currently in the market for an affordable Chromebook that still performs, I would check out the Lenovo N20p Chromebook! Click Here For Even More Information Or To Get Your Lenovo N20p Chromebook! We would like to thank Lenovo for providing us with a copy of the “Lenovo N20p Chromebook”.
