RootMetrics is known as the accredited third part tester of mobile networks in the United States, and throughout the year they release results from various tests. Today, they unveiled their review of mobile networks at airports across the country. And topping out the tests this year was Verizon, they also got the most last year and this year they took a solid 29 RootScore awards. AT&T took 13, Sprint took 0, and T-Mobile came in second with 20. All of these RootScore awards are out of 50, so while there is room for improvement for all carriers, Verizon is at the top this time around.

Verizon always talks about the reliability of their network and they have every right too, they have a more than 97% connection rate at 49 out of 50 of the airports tested. Their ability to stay connected to the network within applications and streaming services was also 97% at 46 of the 50 airports.

RootMetrics also said Verizon is fast, something that NJTechReviews whole heartedly agrees with, they consistently offer lighting fast 4G LTE speeds. The testers at RootMetrics experience the lightning fast network with speeds around 68 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload at Chicago’s Midway International. While you won’t find these crazy speeds at every airport, they did pretty well and Verizon is continuously investing in improving the network. And RootMetrics did state that certain airports like Philadelphia International, La Guardia, and Reagan National had speeds that were under 1.0Mbps.

This can be from a number of factors, but generally Verizon will offer speed and reliability, a pair that is great to see. One last note is about Newark Liberty International airport here in New Jersey, while Verizon did not win the entire airport they did record the fastest median speed records. Verizon was a close second with a score of 96.5 versus T-Mobile with 98.6.

It will be interesting to see who takes the future mobile network reviews, but if Verizon continues with reliability and speed, I have a feeling they will be on top.
