The internet is a great thing and almost everyone uses it.  You wouldn’t be able to read this article without it.  But one thing that inhibits us from using our technology to its fullest potential is uploading and downloading information.  Whenever you access a website, your computer must download a certain amount of information.  While most computers can do this quite quickly, some website or programs that are being downloaded can take a while to load.  Japan has successfully tested an optical cable that can transfer up to 101.7 terabits per second as well as one that can transfer 109 terabits per second.  To put this in perspective, most laptops have a hard drive space of about 250 gb to 500 gb.  If given only one second, this cable could fill up about 300 laptops, a lot more than standard internet connections give you.
