If You Can’t See, Let Your Chair Guide You

Recently, a very advanced wheelchair for the visually impaired has been in development at the Luleå University of Technology.  This chair uses a laser sensor to scan its surrounding and safely move the passenger around obstacles.  The chair produces a 3D image of what is going on in its surroundings and computes a safe path based on how you are moving. The image is constantly updating so as thee environment changes, the chair will adapt.  The first prototype has already been tested by visually impaired students and they claimed that they felt much safer navigating through crowded halls.  Unfortunately the chair is not quite at a final product but with a little tweaking it could make life easier for visually impaired people,
