Verizon Droid Bionic Review

Our friends over at Verizon have sent us a Motorola Droid Bionic for review! It is one of the most awaited phones of 2011 and it is almost here. While the Droid Bionic does not land until September 8, NJTechReviews has the full review today! The Droid Bionic is being called “The Device of the Future today“, and below we will tell you why it is just that. Now, let’s get started with the full review of the Droid Bionic!

 

In The Box

When you get your Verizon Droid Bionic it comes in a box that is similar to Verizon’s other 4G Phones. In the box you will find the Motorola Droid Bionic, Your Lithium Ion Battery, USB Cable, Wall Charger, Literature On The Droid Bionic, and your Verizon 4G LTE Sim Card. So, it comes with everything you need to get started. There are also several accessories that you can buy, if you want them. The accessories are the Motorola Lapdock, HD Station, Adapter for Weblock Application, Vehicle Navigation Mount, Standard Dock, Battery Dock, High Speed 1080p Cable, Wireless Charging Battery Cover,  and The Motorola Wireless Keyboard. You can buy these optional accessories at your local Verizon Wireless Store. Setting up your phone is pretty simple, all you have to do is pop off the back case of your phone. Insert the Lithium Ion Battery and power on your phone. From there you can follow the “On-Screen Instructions” and before you know it your Verizon Droid Bionic is all set up.

 

Design

The Droid Bionic is a big phone. The color of the phone is black with a little bit of aluminum on the bottom of the front. On the front-top of the phone you have the “Motorola” logo, earpiece, and front-facing camera. On the left hand side you have your MicroUSB and HDMI port. On the top of the phone you have your power/lock button and your headset jack. On the right hand side you have your Volume Rocker. On the bottom of the screen you have your normal Android Buttons, those are your Menu, Home, Back, and Search buttons. You also have a microphone located right under there, so for best audio quality try to not block it. On the back you have your 8 mega-pixel camera and flash, speaker, Motorola Logo, 4G LTE Logo, Verizon Logo, Google Logo, and another microphone. The phone’s length is 5 inches and it’s width is 2 inches. At its thickest point the phone is only .5inches. Overall, the design of the phone is great!

 

Hardware

The Droid Bionic is a powerhouse smartphone, it is Verizon’s first smartphone to combine their 4G LTE Network with a dual-core processor, the outcome is amazingly fast speeds on the phone. It is also the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon Wireless. It has a 4.3inch qHD Corning Gorilla Glass display with a dual-layer anti-reflective coating; Making it one amazing screen. It has a Dual Core Processor and 1GB of Ram making it very fast. It has a 8 megapixel autofocus with camera and flash, it can also record 1080pHD video. It also has a front-facing camera for video chats(On 4G LTE, 3G, or WiFi) and for self portraits. It has a total of 32GB Memory, 16GB Built in and a 16GB MicroSD Card that come pre-installed. The MicroSD Slot can hold up to a 32Gb MicroSD card. It also supports wireless charging! It is powered by Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Overall, the hardware on the Droid Bionic is top-notch!

 

Operating System(OS)

The Verizon Droid Bionic is running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. It is the latest and greatest version of Android(2.3.4) available for phones. The Droid Bionic does come pre-loaded with some apps, they are pretty good. It does come pre-loaded with many of Google’s apps, like Books, GMail, Google Search, Places, and more. It also has many of Verizon’s great apps, like VCast Media Manager, VCast Music, VCast Tones, VCast Videos, VZ Navigator, Guided Tours,NFL Mobile, and My Verizon Mobile. It also comes pre-loaded with Amazon Kindle, Blockbuster, City ID, GoToMeeting, Lets Golf 2, Quick Office, and Slacker. The Droid Bionic introduces ZumoCast by Motorola. It is application that lets you bring  videos, music, pictures and documents stored on your computers to your handset via remote access. Droid Bionic also features Webtop wich can allow it to beam Firefox Web Browser, documents, and email to any monitor or TV. Keep in mind if these apps aren’t enough for you or if you want more apps, you have the wonderful Android Market available for your pleasure. There are tons of free apps and apps that cost money. There are certainly some that will fit what you are looking for in an app. Keep in mind you can also download the Amazon App Store for Android. The Droid Bionic comes with Adobe Flash pre-installed. Motorola has made some little UI(User Interface) changes to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. They help to make the phone more unique and make it easier to use. They also have added some new wallpapers and when you turn the device on there is a new video you see as well. It also says “Droid” when you turn the Bionic on. The Operating System on the Droid Bionic is simple and easy to use.

 

Network Speeds

The Droid Bionic runs on Verizon insanely fast 4G LTE Network. Verizon’s 4G LTE Network is rapidly expanding, we have good coverage in our town on their 4G LTE Network. As you can see our network speeds on the Droid Bionic are pretty fast. Browsing the web on the phone is also very quick, overall a fast network , like Verizon’s 4G LTE Network, definitely  helps out your phone. You can also share the speed of Verizon’s 4G LTE Network via the Droid Bionic’s Mobile Hotspot feature, you can share it with up to 5 other devices. To use Mobile Hotspot you must activate it.  The Droid Bionic’s speeds are amazing.

 

Camera

The Verizon Droid Bionic features 2(two) cameras one in the front and one on the back. It also features an LED Flash on the back of the phone. On the back you have an 8 mega-pixel camera with an AutoFocus and an LED Flash. There are 2(two) camera applications on the phone. One is the “camera” app and the other is “Camcorder”. You can take both videos and pictures with either the front or back camera. The “camera” app can also record video but, it is mainly meant for taking still photographs. There are many different effects that you can use, there are also many different options that you can choose from. This way you can get the best photo possibly. These options work both with the back and the front facing camera. Video recording is automatically set to 720pHD, this is pretty good quality for video coming from a cell-phone. Overall, the camera on the Droid Bionic is great!

 

Bottom Line

The Verizon Droid Bionic is a great phone. It is connected to the insanely fast Verizon 4G LTE Network. It is the device of the future today. It is the first smartphone on Verizon to have both a Dual Core Processor and 4G LTE. It has 4.3inch-qHD Corning Gorilla Glass Display, 8 mega-pixel autofocus camera, front-facing-camera, 32GB Memory, Android 2.3.4, and much more! It is one power-house of a phone and is definitely the device of the future today. Overall, I would recommend the Droid Bionic to any person who is looking for a new smartphone, it is amazingly fast and is an overall great phone.
