Our friends over at Samsung have sent us the “Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0” for us to review. We did a hands-on with the device earlier this year, when Samsung first announced it. We were very impressed with it and it’s many great features. Now, let’s get started with the full review of the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0!

The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 has great hardware inside of it. On top of the screen we have a speaker, VGA front facing camera, and Samsung’s Logo. Under the screen we have 3 touch buttons. Those are Menu. Home, and Back. On the bottom of the device you had a micro USB port, microphone, and a headphone jack. On top of the phone you have a microSD card slot. No microSD card is included, as the device itself has 8GB of hard drive space inside. On the right hand side you have your power/sleep button and the volume rocker. Nothing is on the left hand side. On the back you have 2 speakers, the Samsung Logo, the Galaxy Player 5.0 logo, a 3.2 mega-pixel back camera, and a flash. The color of the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 is white with an aluminum ring going around the front of the device. It is light weight and is not that thick, making it portable. Samsung is known for having great displays, the Galaxy Player 5.0 is no exception. It features a gorgeous 5 inch WVGA TFT LCD Display with a resolution of 800 × 480. It is one of the best screens from Samsung yet. Speed is not an issue for this device either is a 1GHz processor, there is no delay what so ever on the Galaxy Player 5.0 . In terms of sound on the device it is great, it has Stereo Speakers, that can get pretty loud. It also has “Sound Alive” which is an Audio Enhancement System and boy does it work. The sound on the Galaxy Player 5.0’s speaker is great. There is cellular antenna to be found in any of the Galaxy Players. It was designed for the person who wants all of the great capabilities of Android but, with out the monthly data plan. Samsung has defiantly achieved this. It does still have WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, and more. Overall, Samsung really did a great job with the Hardware in the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0!

Operating System

The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 is running everything a Samsung Smartphone would have minus the cell phone part. It is running Android 2.3.5 with Samsung Touch Wiz running on top of it. Thanks to its 1GHz Processor the Operating System runs great with no delay what so ever. Some special features that the Galaxy Player 5.0 has is the FM Radio. This works by using the headphones as antennas. So, if you want to listen to your favorite radio station while your on the go, just plug-in your headphones and you are good to go. It also come preloaded with All Share, GMail, YouTube, Social Hub, Samsung Media Hub, Diary, Think Free Office, and more. It also has devoted music and video apps. The music app is good; It is very simple to use. It comes with 5 pre-loaded songs right out of the box, that way you can get taste of what it sounds like on the device. It comes pre-loaded with one video called “Evolution”, this shows you both the video quality and the sound quality. Both of which are superb. Samsung Touch Wiz is great, it makes the operating system more customizable and much easier to use. Overall, Android 2..3.5 Gingerbread and Samsung Touch Wiz, make the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 even better.
