Our friends over at Verizon have sent us the Verizon Droid RAZR for us to review. It is their newest 4G LTE device to hit the market. It is also the thinnest 4G LTE phone on the market. Now, let’s get started with the full review of the Verizon Droid RAZR!

Design

The Droid RAZR’s design is very slim and light. For starters it is the thinnest 4G LTE Smartphone on the market. At its thickest point it measures at 10.6 millimeters. This is on the back of the phone where the camera is located. Besides that it is very thin and extremely light. It has a Kevlar back and it does make the device tougher. The back is where the speaker, Motorola and Verizon logo’s and a 8 mega-pixel HD camera with LED Flash are located. Surrounding the Kevlar is a plastic aluminum covering. Your power/sleep button and volume rocker are located on the right hand-side. The left hand side is where your 4G LTE Sim Card and micro SD card are located. The top of the device is where the headphone jack, micro USB port, and the mini HDMI port. Above the screen you have the earpiece, Motorola Logo, and your 1.3 mega-pixel camcorder is located. Under the screen you have the Verizon logo and the normal Android buttons. The design of the Droid RAZR is very nice. While it is a premium device having the plastic parts, make it not such a premium device. Besides that the quality of the build is great.

Hardware

The Verizon Droid RAZR has some great hardware in it. Let’s start off with the display on the device. It has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD Display, with a resolution of 960 X 450. The screen is gorgeous, but it is not the best screen that we have seen. It is a PenTile Display, this is the same screen that is on the Droid Bionic. It also has a Corning Gorilla Glass Display, that is scratch resistant. For speed it has a 1.2GHz Processor with 1GB of RAM. It’s network is Verizon’s insanely fast 4G LTE Network. In terms of storing your space it has 8GB of Internal Memory and a 16GB microSD card that is included. You get a total of 32GB space which is pretty good. On the back you have an 8 mega-pixel camera, with an LED Flash. It is a great camera. It records in 1080pHD video and boy does it look good. On the front you have the 1.3 mega-pixel front facing camera. It is perfect for taking photos of yourself and for video chatting on the go. Overall, the hardware in the Droid RAZR is great!

Operating System

The Verizon Droid RAZR is not running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However it should be updated to it sometime in 2012. For now it is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Motorola User Interface on top of it. It runs great on the Verizon Droid RAZR. It features some of Motorola’s great widgets like the contacts widget. It has some exclusive wallpapers on the device as well. Now, let’s move into pre-loaded applications that are on the device. It has Amazon Kindle, Blockbuster, Device Setup, Files, Gallery, Google App Suite, GoToMeeting, Guided Tours, IM, Let’s Golf 2, Madden NFL 12, Messaging, Mobile Hotspot, MOTOACTV, MOTOPrint, Music, My Accounts, My Verizon, Netflix, NFL Mobile, Quick Office, Slacker Radio, Smart Actions, Social Integration, Social Networking, Talk, Task Manager, V Cast Tones, Verizon Video, Video Surf, VZ Navigator, and more. There are quite a few applications that come pre-loaded, but many of them will come in very handy. Luckily there wasn’t that many garbage apps pre-loaded. The Droid RAZR also features Smart Actions. This is how the Droid RAZR can make your life easier. You can set it to turn on WiFi when you get home or to put the device on silent at a certain time. Or let’s say one of your family members call you and you can’t answer the phone? It happens to me all of the time. You can have the Droid RAZR send a text to that person saying, “I will call you back as soon as I can, sorry i missed your call”. So, it can come in very handy and many people will love this feature of the Droid RAZR. Overall, the operating system and user interface makes the Droid RAZR an even better device.

Bottom Line

The Verizon Droid RAZR has definitely made a splash on the market. I covered the launch event earlier this month, and everyone was talking about the phone. There was a very large hype around the device but, not everyone one went with out. This due to the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was announced on the same day and that made people forget about the Droid RAZR for a little bit. Then Verizon and Motorola started their huge advertising regarding the device, this made people remember it. You Can See Our Coverage On The Droid RAZR Launch, By Clicking Here. It features a very slim design, which is not found on many of Verizon’s 4G LTE network. It has a great screen and a very fast processor. I would recommend this device to anyone looking for an ultra-portable smartphone and who can wait for Ice Cream Sandwich AKA Android 4.0 . The Droid RAZR will cost you $299.99 with a 2-year contract from Verizon. The price is high but, you’re a getting a very well-built device. Without a contract it will cost you more at $649.99 . You Can Get Your Verizon Droid RAZR, By Clicking Here. We would like to thank Verizon for providing us with a copy of the “Verizon Droid RAZR”.
