Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 Review

Our friends over at Lenovo have sent us the IdeaTab S2110 for us to review. This is Lenovo’s high-end Android tablet, that comes with an optional keyboard dock. It price tag starts off at $400, which may be high, but it does have some very nice features. Your getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a Lenovo User Interface, 1.5GHz Processor, and much more! Now, let’s dive into the full review of the IdeaTab S2110!

Design

I am a big fan of Lenovo’s design, and I am happy to say that I am a fan of the S2110’s design as well. This is the big boy if you will, it is a 10-inch tablet. Around the screen you have the very common black lining. From looking at it you might think that it is thick and heavy, but the tablet itself is just .033-inches thick and weighs just 1.27-pounds. This undercuts the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and it feels very nice in your hands. If you wanted to walk around the house with this, bring this to your local coffee shop, or use it in and out of the office you will have nor problem at all. It has a very nice black color, which goes very well with the design. You have a silver siding that goes around the entire device. And the back of the device has black texture to it, this provides some grip to the device. On the back you will also find the Lenovo logo, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and a clear plastic sticker with some warranty information. The tablet is designed to be held in landscape mode and this is how you will put it in the dock as well. Below the display you have the Lenovo logo, while above it you will find the 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. The bottom of the device has the micro USB port and 2 other slits/ports. These 2 others slits/ports are used for docking the device. The left hand side of the device has a mini HDMI port and a headphone jack. The right of the device will have an easy to use volume rocker. And the power/sleep button can be found on the top of the device. In the box you get a micro USB to USB cord and wall plug-in for charging. And of course you get the Quick Start Guide and if you got the dock it will be inside. Overall, Lenovo did a phenomenal job with the design of the S2110!

Hardware And Dock

Now, we move onto the hardware of the Lenovo IdeaTab S2110. Inside for speed you get a Qualcomm S4 1.5GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM. This give the device speed and makes it quite snappy, in all places but one. For some reason certain large webpages take a little longer to load in the browser pre-installed on the device. A simple fix for this is to download Google Chrome and this did fix the issue in most cases. However, opening and closing applications, swiping through home pages, and the general use of the tablet happens with out a problem. Let’s move onto the display, you get a 10.1-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 X 800. And it has great viewing angles! Colors look super vibrant and contrast is very nice, and if you turn the brightness all the way up the experience gets even better. The S2110 has a really nice display, that will be perfect for streaming movies or watching television shows. On the back you get a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and it is average camera. And I personally don’t think you need something better than this on a tablet. In terms of different settings you can change you can change the exposure, focus, flash, scene modes, panorama settings, and much more. And you can record some nice 1080pHD video with the S2110 as well. The 1.3 megapixel front facing camera comes in handy for video chatting. And the dock will give you a nice angle to video chat at as well. You can get the S2110 in either 16GB or 32GB storage. And in terms of battery life you will get around 9 hours with out the dock and around 30 days of standby. If you use the dock you can double your battery life to around 17 hours. In terms of other hardware you get FM Radio Connectivity, 3G(where available), BlueTooth, and GPS. Let’s talk about the amazing dock that works with S2110. This really gives you laptop or netbook experience, it provides you with a keyboard and a trackpad. And this keyboard is amazing, it is very similar to that of Lenovo’s AccuType Keyboards. It is very easy to type on and the keys come right back up. The trackpad is also very easy to use and you get both a right and left click on it. In the settings menu you can determine the speed of the mouse. The top row of keys are handy shortcuts for search, browser, BlueTooth, play, pause, forward, backward, lock, and many others! This dock will double the battery life of your S2110 and it has a SD card slot, a micro USB port, 2 USB ports, and easy way to put the tablet in and to take it out. The tablet simply snaps in and you can fold it flat to make it easy to carry. And to remove simply push the button under the Lenovo logo. If you are thinking about getting the S2110 be sure to get the dock as well, it will bring a whole new world of experiences you can have with the tablet.

Software

Lenovo has given the S2110 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a Lenovo User Interface. This interface makes the tablet easier to use and it is lighter compared to previous user interface from Lenovo. When I first got the device the Lenovo App Shop was pre-installed, even though it was shut down in September. Thus the application did not work, Lenovo quickly got an Software update dispatched and it removed the application. And this shows Lenovo’s commitment both to its customers and it’s devices. Your home screen has different boxes which functions as applications hubs, note takers, and more. For instance you have a social folder which contains Skype, Google Talk, ooVoo, and contacts. And this device can be used for business as well, it comes pre-loaded with Norton Security, SugarSync, and other applications that will come in handy. The 2(two) speakers on this device are enhanced with SRS TruMedia, this will give you a richer audio sound. Lenovo has a nice 3D Cube transition that is featured on the entire device, if for some reason you want to change you can choose from different ones in settings. Lenovo has given you plenty or pre-loaded applications out of the box that make it a better device. If this your first Android device it will give you a great experience, as it is super easy to use on the S2110. And if you have been using Android for a while, you will find it to be a welcome back experience.

Bottom Line

The Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 is a great tablet, it is true multi media powerhouse that can also be used for business. It is features a great design, from its slimness to its lightness it could be shown on the runway any day. It gets speed from it’s 1.5GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM, it gives you a very fluid and quick experience with the tablet. You get an awesome 10.1-inch display that can be seen from almost any angle. A simple 5 megapixel back camera and a nice 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. You have a ton of ports on the S2110, from a micro HDMI port to a micro USB port, you will find a place to plug your accessories in. And the optional dock will give you double the battery life and even more ports, like a full USB port. The Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 is a great tablet and I personally think it is the best 10-inch Android tablet on the market yet! Even though it has the higher price tag it has some great features and it backed by a great company! The IdeaTab S2110 starts at $399.99 and Lenovo’s own online shop is currently selling it with the dock for $463.20! For More Information On The Lenovo IdeaTab S2110, Please Click Here. We would like to thank Lenovo for providing us with a copy of the “Lenovo IdeaTab S 2100”.
