Verizon officially moves past 2-year contracts with the new Simplified Data Choices plan

Verizon Gate

Last year, Verizon Wireless said they wouldn’t move past 2-year contracts, but earlier today it appears that T-Mobile has truly made their un-carrier mark on the industry. Verizon Wireless is officially moving past 2-year contracts with the just announced Simple Data Choices plan. These new plans are designed to match consumer lifestyles and to do so in a very easy fashion, with no high level stress that might be associated with wireless service. They will now offer four simple plans, that are setup in a pretty ingenious fashion.

Verizon now offers four core plains with the new Simplified Data Choices, these being Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large. All of these plans include unlimited talk and limited text, but offer different shared data amounts. The Smalls plan will cost $30 a month for 1GB of data, the Medium plans comes with 3GB of data for $45 a month, the Large plan will cost $60 a month for 6GB of data, and the X-Large plan will come in at $80 a month for 12GB of data. With all of these plans you can add an extra gigabyte of data for $15. If you are looking for an even larger amount of data, you can reach to Verizon Wireless and they will work with you.

The carrier is also updating the monthly line access fees, and this update goes along with the idea of simplicity. For the new Simplified Data Choices plan each smartphone line is $20 a month, a tablet or a Jetpack line is $10 a month, and smaller device like a smartwatch comes in at $5 a month. With the Small, Medium, Large and X-Large plans you can share the data with up to 10 devices.

New customers to Verizon who want to use the new Simplified Data Choices plan can get a device by using Verizon’s device payment option or by paying full retail for the device. Note that they are no longer using Verizon Edge as their payment option, but simply they are now calling it the Verizon’s device payment option. Current customers on Verizon can keep their current plan or switch to the new plan, but some restrictions may start to apply.

Overall, this is a unique direction that Verizon is moving in, especially since 2-year contracts will no longer be existing. It also seems that the end goal is to move all of there plans into this new simple and consumer friendly format. Speaking of being more consumer friendly, Verizon is starting to phase in a more streamlined bill that will make it easier for customers to understand charges. The new Simplified Data Choices plans will be landing on August 13th 2015! Let us know if you make the switch to Verizon’s new Simplified Data Choices plans.
