LG unveils the V10; a unique smartphone with a second screen and dual front cameras

LG has just unveiled the V10 a new smartphone, which is the first in there V Series line. The V10 is pretty unique and was designed with creativity in mind. In terms of unique features, the V10 has a second screen and dual front cameras. This device was just announced in Seoul and it is technically October 1st there. This device will be announced again at US event in NYC tomorrow when it is October 1st here. But in the meantime since the V10 is now official, let’s dive into it!

LG has had an interesting year and the company is saying that V10 is designed for today’s social network savvy consumers. The features chosen for the device are meant to different it from other ones on the market. For starters have a second screen is unique, but this is not a true second display like we saw on the Yota phone. Instead you get a main 5.7-inch QHD IPS Quantum Display with 513 pixel per inch and a resolution of 2560 X 1440, but you also get a secondary 2.1 IPS Quantum Display with 513 pixels per inch along with a resolution of 160 X 1040. This second 2.1-inch display is set inside of the larger 5.7-inch main one.

You can set this second screen to be always on and can it have display things like the weather, time, date and battery icon when the main display is off. Then when you have the main display on you can use the secondary display to have shortest for applications that you frequently use. Another thing is that the secondary display can come in handy when you are watching a movie or playing games, as it won’t interrupt the main display but can still let you know when you’re getting a call or receiving a text.

LG is upgrading the design and finally moving away from plastic, the V10 is made out of SAE grade 316L stainless steel and is paired with a Dura Guard frame. The back of the phone features a soft Dura Skin with a unique background that should provide grip and keep the phone safe. You can get the V10 in Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue, and Opal Blue.

While the design is a step away from the LG G4, it has some similar specifications. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 4GB of RAM and features 64GB of internal storage plus a micro SD card slot. It is not running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but instead has 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. The V10 also has a removable 3,000mAh battery and has connectivity for Wi-Fi 802.11, NFC, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.1, and LTE-A Category 6.

The V10 also has a fingerprint sensor on the back, and it looks pretty darn similar to the Nexus Imprint sensor on the 5X and 6P. This will let you unlock the device as it is compatible with Knock Code and will work with Android Pay.

The other big feature of the V10 would have to be the dual cameras. On the front of the device you will find dual 5 megapixel cameras that have two different lenses. One of the lenses is 80 degree for selfies and the other is 120 degrees for wide-angle selfies. LG is truly in love with the selfie and are clearly trying to embrace it. When you take a wide-angle shot on the V10, a software algorithm will combine the two images together.

The back of the LG V10 features a 16 megapixel camera with a F1.8 aperture. It is the first smartphone in the world to offer manual mode for shooting video, this will let you adjust shutter speed, frame rate, ISO, white balance and focus while recording. The V10’s back camera can record video in HD, FHD, and UHD in either 16:9 or 21:9 ratios. The device also features Steady Record, Snap Video, 15 Second Auto Edit, Quick Video, Quick Share, Audio Monitor, White Noise Filter, and more.

Overall, the LG V10 shows that the company is moving towards more premium devices. I for one am very happy to see them move away from plastic designs and into metal ones. The V10 has a few unique features like a dual display and dual cameras on the front to help you take the ultimate selfie. And hopefully it will get the upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon after launch.

Speaking of launch the V10 will be coming to Korea this month and will expand to United States, China and key countries in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East in the weeks to come. In the United States I am expecting to see it come to all four of the major carries, those being AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and Sprint.
