Verizon Wireless has one of the best networks around and not to mention their 4G LTE network is lightning fast. This time around third-party network tester, RootMetrics is dropping a new report on the NYC Urban Experience. To say the least, this test is unique and shows a different side of network performance, a very specific one.

This test does a comprehensive analysis on the Manhattan Urban Zone, as well as a few areas in New Jersey. Specifically for NYC, they focused in on the Financial District, the Garment District, Midtown, Soho, Tribeca, the Upper East Side, and the Upper West Side. In total they did more than 72,000 tests that were done driving, walking, and inside over 250 buildings. RootMetrics took it one step further and test out networks at arenas, stadiums, and college campuses.

Verizon Wireless’s network proved both reliable and fast, they got top marks at Yankee Stadium, CitiField, Barclays Center, and Madison Square Garden. Verizon also did will under The Garden, specifically at New York Penn Station. They were “the clear speed king” as RootMetrics put it and they more than doubled the speed of the others carriers tested.

In an effort to keep up the reliability and performance of the network, Verizon has invested a bit. Andrew Testa, the PR Manager for Verizon Wireless in the New York Metro Region, had this to say about the announcement:

The New York City market demands nothing but the best, and Verizon Wireless has invested more than $830 million in the New York-New Jersey region to provide a best-in-class wireless experience for our customers. We’re happy that these science-based, third-party results reflect well on our network in one of the most challenging wireless markets in the world.

$830 million is quite a lot and Verizon continues to make enhancements to the network . It will be interesting to see how Verizon Wireless performs in future RootMetrics tests.
