AT&T’s Civic App Challenge in New Jersey is still open for entries until November 13

AT&T is big in looking for way that developers and innovators out in the world, can develop their ideas into realities. Luckily for any artists, designers, thinkers, and developers out there you still have time to enter the AT&T Civic App Challenge in New Jersey. This two-month long virtual hackathon will be closing entires on November 13th 2015. They are looking for services and applications that serve the needs of the community.

The main goal is to introduced and develop ways that citizens can connect with their governments. Specifically, with how new mobile technologies can lead to the next generation of jobs and investments in the technology sector. This Civic App Challenge was kicked off in September at JuiceTank Innovation Lab in Somerset, New Jersey. AT&T and the New Jersey Tech Council has partnered with many schools for this challenged including the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in New Jersey, the New Jersey Association of State Colleges and Universities, and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges.

While entires will close on November 13th, the winners will be announced at a ceremony at Rowan University on December 4th. The New Jersey Tech Council will be awarding $19,000 in prize to the winners. The panel of judges will select three regional winners and one grand prize winner. The three regional winners will each get $3,000, while the grand prize winner will get a larger $10,000 and a chance to work with a regional incubator that will give guidance.

The Civic Apple Challenge is only open to individuals who are residents of New Jersey or postsecondary students enrolled in a New Jersey college or university listed on the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education website. J. Michael Schweder, the President of AT&T Mid-Atlantic had this to say about the Civic App Challenge so far;

“We’ve received great feedback since we launched the challenge last month. There’s still time for New Jersey’s best and brightest to develop apps that will serve New Jersey’s communities and demonstrate the state’s amazing tech talent.”
