AT&T, along with a few other carriers, are working on 5G. Yes, this is the successor to 4G and 4G LTE– 5G is planned to be a much faster and more reliable network. AT&T is now working with other technology leaders across the globe to ensure a more rapid deployment of 5G.

The first hurdle or rather goal is to lay out the global standards for the technology; these are 3GPP specifications. AT&T’s plan is to link 5G trials to the official specifications, which will hopefully be solidified soon.

After all, why test out the network with no set standards as it will create more work in the long run. AT&T is currently trying to work with China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, KDDI, LG, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, INC., Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Samsung, SK Telecom, Telstra, and Vodafone.
