Apple is doing it again; they are redefining the notebook with the next generation MacBook Pro. It gets a whole new aluminum design and what appears to be a Magic Toolbar. It is available in Silver and Space Grey in either 13-inch or 15-inch size. The design is dramatically thinner with the 13-inch coming in at just 14.9 millimeters thick and 23% less in volume.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro comes in at 15.5 millimeters thicker and 20% less volume. But it weighs just 4 pounds, which is crazy light for a 15-inch notebook.

The MacBook Pro’s have a 2X larger Force Touch Trackpad, a redesigned keyboard. The keyboard makes uses of the 2nd-generatio butterfly mechanism which is more responsive.

But the real excitement is with the new Function key. It is a touchscreen Retina display that responds to gestures and taps. It is called Touch Bar, not the Magic Toolbar. It replaces the standard system functions; they are now built-in. It will change depending on whatever application you are using. For instance in Photos, it can let you straighten it right on the TouchBar.

Developers are going to have a lot of fun with TouchBar.

It is also right above the Keyboard and can show you quick type suggestions when typing. And next to TouchBar is TouchID, yes it will let you login in with your finger. And yes the sensor is integrated into the power button. Apple Pay will be available on the Mac now as well.

The MacBook Pros featured a 67% brighter and higher contrast ratio display, plus a wider color gamut. It is as thin as the screen on the MacBook, and it uses less power. Inside the 15-inch MacBook Pro is an Intel Core i7 which is a quad core chip. For Graphics you get Radeon Pro which is based on an AMD architecture, and it has 4GB of VRAM. It has 3.1GB/s SSD with up to 2-terbytes of storage. You get twice the dynamic range with audio thanks to redesigned speakers. It also has a whole new cooling mechanism to keep it running.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro has Intel Iris Graphics and can have dual-core Intel Core i5 or i7 processors. It still has the faster SSD with twice the speed of the previous models.

The 13-inch and 15-inch ports have four Thunderbolt 3 ports that work with USB 3.1 Generation 2 and DisplayPort 1.2. Plus anyone of these ports can be a charging port. But any of these ports can be USB, HDMI, or VGA as well. With all of these ports, Pro customers are going to be in heaven.

The MacBook Pro’s will both have up to 10 hours of battery life. And when compared to the original PowerBook, it is much much much faster.
