Last year, Samsung introduced its Family Hub Refrigerator which had a large touch screen and internet connectivity. This year at CES 2017, Samsung is launching the Family Hub 2.0 Refrigerator– Which doubles down on voice technology and integrated applications. This year Samsung is expanding Family Hub 2.0 10 refrigerator models

This year Samsung is growing the Family Hub 2.0 10 refrigerator models including the three door, four door French models, and the four-door Flex lineup. Along with increasing the models, you will find Family Hub, and it’s 21.5-inch touchscreen on, they have updated the software itself.

Family Hub 2.0 puts an emphasis on food management, as it can now be used to replenish items inside the fridge. This makes use of the View Inside cameras and artificial intelligence, as it can then identify the food. And add those images and items to a shopping list, from there you Groceries by MasterCard to order the food. Examples like these show off the potential of a connected fridge and how it can help in everyday life.

From a communication standpoint, each user in the household can have their profile. This can be accessed from the touchscreen on the refrigerator or via the smartphone application for iOS and Android. The screen can now act as a digital bulletin board allowing notes, photos, and more to be shared on it. Voice technology comes into play as you can speak requests and have them appear both on the fridge and in the application. This can help you to make a shopping list while prepping for dinner or making a to-do list for tomrorow.

Samsung is also working with many service providers like GrubHub, Nomiku, Glympse, Ring, Spotify, and iHeartRadio to create unique experiences. They are also working with more local companies in different regions.

I think these new application integrations and voice controls will help to increase the experience with a Family Hub refrigerator. It also offers a glimpse into our not so distant future in which almost any device can help with everyday tasks.

In addition to Refrigerator, Samsung is expanding it’s overall connected line of appliances. Specifically with built-in appliances like ovens, cooktops, and range hoods. Which can all be installed together during a new construction build or with a remodel. The smart technology here includes pre-heating or pre-conditioning the equipment from a smartphone application. As well as features like SteamBake and SteamRoast which allow you to have more control over what you are cooking. As temperatures and timings can be more accurate, allowing you to get the perfect texture.

Samsung’s full line of smart built-in appliances and the Family Hub 2.0 Refrigerator line will be on display at CES 2017. We expect to get exact pricing and availability closer to launch for all of these, which is expected at some point this year.
