Lenovo’s flagship ThinkPad laptop is the X1 Carbon, and for the fifth generation, the company is making it more portable than ever. You still get the carbon reinforced body, but this year it has a smaller footprint and a thinner design.

The X1 Carbon now comes in at just 15.5 millimeters thick and weighs in at just 2.49 pounds. While ThinkPads have traditionally come in a black color, Lenovo is adding a silver variant as an option this year. This is the most portable business ultrabook ever to be released by Lenovo. But even with a thinner builder, Lenovo has still opted for its AccuType keyboard.

Powering the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is up to an Intel Core 7th generation processor with up to 16GB of RAM. It is running Windows 10 Pro and it is the Signature Edition, which means you are truly ready to go out of the box. Similarly to Apple with new MacBook Pro’s, Lenovo is switching to Thunderbolt 3. The X1 Carbon gets two Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a microSD card slot.

Rounding out the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is 15 hours of battery life, integrated Intel graphics, and a 720p webcam. New for this year is the option of 4G LTE connectivity through a Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A chip.

While this is not a complete redesign or rethinking of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, this is a solid upgrade to the classic business laptop. Surprisingly, touch is not an option for the 14-inch display, but you do get to choose between UHD and FHD.

Lenovo’s fifth generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon will start at $1,349 when it lands in February.
