It’s CES 2017, and that means it is time for Samsung to unveil its new flagship line of televisions. Introducing the 2017 QLED TV’s, which are the successor to the SUHDs from 2016. The changes get less and less every year, but Samsung is still not moving into OLED rather, they continue to push with LED displays.

This year Samsung is still looking to deliver a stunning picture quality, offer a state of the art Smart Hub, and solve customer pain points. QLED’s have improved color performance, which means they will look more real and are capable of showing 100% color volume. Meaning that no matter the brightness level of the TV, the display can still show all the colors in the image. This is accomplished through Advanced Quantum Dot Technology that is new for 2017. This is done by adding a metal material nano-sized semiconductor Quantum dots–thus increasing luminance and color quality.

This is accomplished through Advanced Quantum Dot Technology that is new for 2017. This is done by adding a metal material nano-sized semiconductor Quantum Dots–thus increasing luminance and color quality. Peak luminance on these new QLEDs is high in between 1,5000 and 2,000-nits, with no impact on the picture quality.

From the Smart Hub perspective, the remote for the TV can be used to control nearly everything hooked into the TV. And this helps with Samsung’s goal of building a unified user experience. The company also copied the Chromecast this year with SmartView–which allows you to start content on your phone and send it to the television. My hope here is that they magically add Google Cast compatibility, but the likelihood of this is not high. As we previewed earlier this week, Samsung is launching Sports and Music Smart TV experiences as well.

Lastly, Samsung’s QLED TV lineup features an Invisible Connection cable that allows all of the devices that need to be connected to the TV to be connected through one cable. The No-Gap Wall Mount lets you easily hang the TV flush to the wall. You also get two stands to choose from a studio stand or a gravity stand.

While Samsung’s 2017 QLED TV lineup is not a complete rethinking, it does have some improvements. Like better picture quality, one cable for all peripherals, and a better Smart Hub experience. The flagship Q9, Q8, and Q7 should launch later this year.
