Ford and Amazon team up to offer consumers the ability to access their car from home, and call up other features from their vehicle via Alexa – Amazon’s cloud-based voice service

Amazon Alexa has been a big part of CES 2017, even though the company does not have an actual presence at the show. Instead, other companies are partnering with Amazon to add Alexa integration into the devices. Ford has just announced that they have partnered with Amazon and Alexa will be coming soon to a Ford Vehicle near you. So the integration goes deep allowing you to control the entertainment system in the vehicle, but also enabling you to order products from Amazon.

It will be rolled out in two phases– First, you will be able to connect to your car via an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot in your house. This will also work with any Alexa enabled device; this first phase should hit before the end of the month. The more exciting phase lands this summer, and that will let you use Alex while you are driving.

The first phase, which they are calling “Alexa at Home” will arrive for the Ford Focus Electric, Fusion Energi, and C-MAX Energi owners via the MyFord Mobile application. This will allow vehicle owners to remotely start or stop the car, lock it, check the range status, see the charge level, and more.

This summer the second phase, “Alex on the Go” will roll out to Ford drivers with SYNC 3. This updated will bring a ton of new features to Sync 3. Drivers will be able to ask Alexa too get weather reports, check the news, play a song, and even add items to shopping lists. All of this can be done with your voice while you are safely operating a motor vehicle. You will even be able to control devices in your home that link up with Alexa while on the go.
