Intel did not just bring several Tom Brady advertisements to the Super Bowl this year, but they brought some very cool technology. As previewed at CES 2017, Intel has been doing some exciting work with drones, and they were part of Lady Gaga’s halftime show this year at Super Bowl LI.
300 Shooting Star Drones lit up the night sky during the halftime show. While Lady Gaga was on the roof singing “This Land Is Your Land,” the 300 Shooting Star Drones created a waving American Flag around here. Each of these drones are relatively small and made mostly of styrofoam with LED lights on board. The drones themselves are all controlled by a very carefully coordinated application that is on one computer. The routes they travel make sure they did not cross paths, as there is no obstacle avoidance on the drones.
Instead of the traditional graphic from Pepsi or Bridgestone at the end of the show, the 300 Shooting Star Drones made both a Pepsi logo and an Intel logo. All in all, it was pretty epic, and you can watch a replay of Intel’s Shooting Star Drones below.
