LG is stealing the show at MWC 2017, to say the least, after all, Samsung is keeping the lid closed tightly on the Galaxy S8 for a little bit longer. Introducing the LG G6 the new flagship from the company and the closest thing to an entirely bezel-less phone for the masses. It seems that the G6 is a full reset for LG, gone are removable batteries and in are choices that make sense, as well as a few surprises.

For starters, you have a 5.7-inch QHD+ 2880 X 1440 FullVision display with an 18:9 screen aspect ratio. LG is a firm believer that 18:9 is the future, in comparison to the most common 16:9 setup most devices have to do. The larger area allows for a more immersive viewing experience when watching content and an expansive viewing space. With a such a large display, the G6 is mostly screen.

As it, the device’s size is 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm with an aluminum and glass build. The bezels are quite thin, almost not visible on the sides, with thicker ones above and below the display. The back features a camera, but there is no camera bump. Although the setup of a camera and fingerprint sensor do give the illusion of a face on the back. The G6 will come in black, platinum, and white–with all of them having a glossy back. The LG G6 is also durable, even with such a sleek build, as it has IP68 water and dust resistance. Meaning it can handle being in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

Powering the LG G6 is Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 processor with 4GB of RAM. It has either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, along with a micro SD card slot for expandable storage. LG partnered with Google to bring The Google Assistant to the LG G6. Along with a very powerful assistant, it is also running Android 7.1 Nougat with a customized user interface. The Google Assistant has also been customized to work with each of LG’s core applications that come pre-loaded on the G6.

LG has had some solid camera setups in the past, with some crazy wide-angle lenses, and the G6 is no different. On the back, you will find dual 13-megapixel cameras, but one of these lenses a 125-degree field of view. When taking photos, specifically with zoom, you will get a smooth transition between the two lenses. This rear camera setup can also take the popular bokeh effect, as well as some great panoramic shots. You can quickly view the shot you just took while preparing to take the next one with a Square Camera Mode. Essentially, it splits the UI with the top being the viewfinder and the bottom showing your most recent shot.

The front of the device has an 8-megapixel lens with a 100-degree field of view. This will be ideal for selfies and snapping on Snapchat. Rounding out the device would be a 3,300mAh battery that is embedded. This is the first time in a while LG is not opting for a removable battery, which might annoy some consumers. However, I think the pros outweigh the cons here, as you have a much sleeker design with an aluminum and glass build.

The LG G6 might be the best phone from LG, but it also shows that 2017 is a very promising year for smartphones. The G6 will have its inaugural launch in South Korea on March 9th, with other regions following soon after.
