Tomorrow is the launch day for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. While these devices are the first from Samsung since the Note 7 situation, these are the successors to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge which were announced over a year ago. While our full review of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are forthcoming, let’s do a specification shootout between the current and previous generation flagships from Samsung.

The Galaxy S8 is packing a 5.8-inch 2,960 X 1440 display with 570 pixels per inch–From our hands-on experience it is gorgeous and it is an Infinity Display. This takes the “Edge” feature to the next level and essentially removes the bezel. The S8 Plus has a slightly larger 6.2-inch Infinity Display. In comparison, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge had a 5.5-inch Quad HD display at 2560 X 1440.

Both this S8 and S7 will eventually get Android 7.0 Nougat, but 2017’s flagship gets the updated version of TouchWiz with Samsung’s personal assistant Bixby. Powering that experience is 3,000mAh battery on the S8 and a 3,500mAh on the S8 Plus. The S7 had a 3,000mAh battery and the S7 Edge got a 3,600mAh battery. It I safe to say that after the whole Galaxy Note 7 issue, Samsung is taking an more precautionary step with batteries.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge had a Quad-core 2.15GHz + 1.6GHz processor with 4GB of RAM inside, which was a solid setup. The S8 and S8 Plus will most likely blow that away courtesy of a 2.35Ghz and 1.9Ghz Eight Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GBs of RAM. You also get 64GB of internal storage this year, while the S7 family only had 32GBs inside.

Last but not least we have a similar camera setup– The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge along with the S8 and S8 Plus both have a 12-megapixel camera setup with a LED flash. While last years flagships had a 5 megapixel front pack, the S8 and S8 Plus opt for 8-megapixel camera with face detection and auto focus.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus also have a Gigabit LTE connectivity which is an insane feature, but one that might prove useful in the long run. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus launch tomorrow, April 21st on T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint in the United States.
