Google has been enjoying the success of the traditional Daydream VR headset which requires a smartphone. But at Google I/O 2017 the Daydream team has announced they are working on a standalone VR headset.

This means that this VR headset will not require a smartphone, meaning the experience can be more accurate and doesn’t require another piece of technology. Google is working with Qualcomm to make a reference design and have partnered with HTC and Lenovo for actual headsets, which should come later this year.

The big feature of these standalone VR headsets would be World Sense. Which is a positional tracking system that Google has developed and this will let VR be even more immersive.
