Tim Cook just did one more thing and it is iPhone X, but it is pronounced iPhone 10. The iPhone X is all screen, beautiful to look at, and it is incredible to hold. It has glass on the front and the back with the same strong formula as iPhone 8–It really looks gorgeous. It pays homage to the original iPhone with silver siding and it comes in Space Grey and Silver, both featuring a black front.
It features a Super Retina Display, which is an all new display–it comes in at 5.8-inch with a 2436 X 1135 resolution with 458 pixels per inch. This new display is based on OLED technology and it has Tru Tone Display built inside. Since there is no home button you can touch the screen to turn it on. But with no home button, you get a dock which we saw with iOS 11 on the new iPads. And to invoke Siri, you can now press the side button in and it will work like that or you can use Hey Siri.
But unlocking your phone will be different–On the iPhone X, the device is locked till you look at it and recognizes you. This is Face ID and it really does just work thanks to some awesome technology. There are plenty of Sensors including an illuminator, an AR sensor, and a dot projector to confirm your face. To process all of this data, you get the A11 Bionic Neural Engine, yes this is inside a phone, to recognize your face. And your data is very secure, unlike some other phones, all of the data and your face is stored on the device itself.
Along with Face ID, the team behind it decided they weren’t done and looked to Emojis. But now Apple is introducing Animoji, which are animated Emojis–One that you can control with your face. They track more than 50 facial muscle movements and they are pretty fun. And even better it is integrated directly into Messages, and there are over a dozen Animojis.
iPhone X features dual 12-megapixel lenses on the back along with optical image stabilization and a telephoto feature that accompanies the wide angle lens. You also get Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting features. The front facing True Depth Camera allows for Portrait Mode and Portrait Lightning with selfies. This technology in a front facing camera has not been seen on other devices yet.
The iPhone X is also powered by the insanely powerful A11 Bionic Chip that includes a total of 6 cores and in house Apple design GRU with a video encoder and a neural engine. And with all these hardware improvements, you can expect all day battery life. The iPhone X has Wireless Charging, LTE Advanced, Bluetooth 5.0, and the W2 Chip. Apple also gave us a sneak peak at Air Power, a wireless charging mat that will let you charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once.
