DISH isn’t introducing a new Joey or Hooper set-top box at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show, but instead, they are showing off a unique TV experience. Customers with a Hopper, Joey or Wally will be getting Hands-Free TV with the Google Assistant. This will deliver a new way to control the TV with your voice.
Even better this will be a multi-language experience with support for English and Spanish at launch. This also continues what has been an epic show for the Google Assistant, as many platforms are choosing to partner and work with it. At launch, the Google Assistant will not be supported directly by the remote, but rather through compatible speakers like Google Home or smartphones with the Google Assistant app. You will be able to record a show, play or pause live TV, and even find content.
The DISH voice remote control already ships at no extra cost with all Hopper DVRs, but you can expect the Hands-Free TV with the Google Assistant to land in the coming months.
