Verizon Will Be Activating Their AWS Spectrum Later This Year And Many Devices Will Support It!

As many of you know the Samsung Galaxy S 4 on Verizon is an AWS capable device. AWS is a higher capacity band for Verizon’s insanely fast 4G LTE network. They recently acquired this spectrum and it will be activated later this year. However, the Galaxy S 4 is not the only AWS capable device, Verizon already has 7(seven) AWS capable device on the market today. In fact we recently unboxed the Nokia Lumia 928, which is AWS capable. You Can See Our Unboxing Of The Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumia 928, By Clicking Here. In order for these devices to use the AWS bands, they will required an over the air software update. Verizon will push these updates out, once the spectrum has been activated. The BlackBerry Q10 for Verizon, which launches in a few weeks, will be a AWS capable as well. While they were not specific as to all of the devices with the AWS bands, they did say that these devices included a USB modem, 2(two) Samsung 10-inch tablets, and 2(two) Jetpacks. I am thinking that the Samsung tablets would be the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Note 10.1. In fact the Verizon AWS capable device hit the market in November of 2012. You can see the full quote from Tom Pica, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, below. We will keep you update with this exciting news from Verizon!

Verizon Wireless Spokesperson Tom Pica:

“Seven 4G LTE devices with AWS-capability are being sold by Verizon Wireless today.  They include two Samsung 10-inch tablets, two jetpacks, a USB, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Nokia 928 Lumia. They will utilize the AWS band when it is activated later this year.  The BlackBerry Q10, which launches soon, will also be AWS-capable.

The first device with AWS capability was put on the market in November of last year. Most of our 4G LTE devices going forward will be AWS-capable.  They will require an over the air upgrade that we will push out once 4G LTE service on AWS spectrum is activated later this year.”
