AT&T has just announced the NEC Terrain, a ruggedized smartphone that is built for business. The NEC Terrain is going to be available exclusively through AT&T Business Solutions channels and online starting June 21! It will retail for $99.99 with a 2-year contract and will be available online from www.ATT.com/necterrain. The NEC Terrain will be running on AT&T’s 4G LTE network, but you can use it over WiFi as well. This means that AT&T’s 32,000 WiFi hotspots will come in very handy and the device should connect to them automatically.
This means that if you are in a building that has no service, you can still make that phone call over WiFi. Android 4.0 is running on the NEC Terrain and a 1.5GHz QualComm Snapdragon S4 processor is powering it. You will have 8GB of internal storage and you can expand that thanks to a micro SD card slot. A durable 3.1-inch scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass high-resolution display is found on the NEC Terrain and the to add to the durability it is exceeds the military specifications (MIL-810G) for shock distribution. For taking photos you get a 0.3 megapixel camera on the front and a 5 megapixel camera on the back. It is an AT&T Push To Talk device and the service has been enhanced for the NEC Terrain. The device is secure enough for business use as well, thanks VPN and on-device encryption. Overall, the NEC Terrain for AT&T certainly seems like a built tough device for AT&T!
