Last week, Archer season 5 officially premiered and with that the biggest change to the series was let out. As we put it, this change is a big one, from a spy show to one that seems to be about a drug cartel. Plus, a new name, changing from Archer to Archer Vice. The fans of Archer are surprised, very surprised, but it makes for some great stories that can be told this season. They left us with a lot of unanswered questions and a sneak peak at the season. With episode 2, “A Kiss While Dying”, we learn even more!
With that being said, Spoiler’s do lie below. If you don’t want to spoil it, I suggest you come back after you have watched the episode A Kiss While Dying.
At the end of the first episode, ISIS is no more, it has been shut down by the FBI. After all Malory and the rest of the team, where doing some pretty illegal stuff through the years. Their building is blown up, for the most part, and what was left was seized. They had to do something with the ton of cocaine, they had hidden in her office. At the end Lana suggests the idea of a drug cartel and Archer runs with it.
We are greeted with a new building at the beginning of this episode, we also learn that Archer lost his penthouse. This new house is pretty big, very big. They are doing a lot of unpacking and Krieger is doing his usual stuff. Then we learn that Malory is jumping right in to the cartel business, specifically with a buyer down in Florida. There skills in espionage, seem to be coming in handy. We learn that Woodhouse is still in the gang, currently residing in the pool.
Dr. Krieger’s amazing way to hide the cocaine, causes some issues. Gillette is helping Cheryl with her dream of being a country superstar. This way to hide the cocaine, causes some issues for Pam. Cyril is now in charge of the money of the business, but still is being micro managed by Malory.
Archer, Lana, and Pam make it down to Florida, they hide the drugs as a cast around Pam. One interesting note, is that they keep remembering there times as spy’s, which I think is important. It also helps to move the plot forward, but still remembering when they came from. Pam might be getting an addiction to these drugs, which might lead to something interesting. Her addiction even causes some injuries, specifically one to Archer. She still provides the great comedic one liners, that we all loved so much.
When Archer comes to his senses, we see Ramon; He is back! We learn that he is the new contact of Malory, for drugs. He still uses a cover up, which is financed by his mother. Archer also brings back his Spanish skills and they work well with the story of this episode. While all this happening, Gillette is using his interesting style of teaching Cheryl to sing. Ramon seems very calm about the whole deal and Pam mistakes flour for cocaine.
At the drug deal, we see different styles come about, then we see Charles and Rudy are the ones who are buying the drugs. It seems Ramon is now good friends with them, they loan each other items, like fondue sets. Then Archer gives out the secret they don’t have any weapons and they lose the deal. Same mistakes are repeated, but in different scenarios. Archer becomes very upset or rationale, then he plans out his revenge.
Flash back to the new headquarters, we learn Krieger’s wired up the entire site and when Cheryl is alone, she can sing. Like really good singing, this becomes the soundtrack for Archer and the gang back in Florida. Ramon and Archer head into their house and check it out, specifically “the best kitchen ever”. Then we learn Ramon back stabbed Archer and it was a deal, or at least it seems. Ramon and Archer share a lovely moment, as he seems to be going ill. Lana comes back in and witnesses them kissing, thus proving her point. Lana comes back in and they make it back with the money.
Back at the headquarters again, we Cyril doing his job and then realizing the money is fake. It appears it was a setup, they didn’t actually die and it causes some issues. Lana then describes the situation to Archer, we then see Ramon was the one behind it and they get the money and the drugs. Archer and the old ISIS team, appear to be the wiser.
Like that, we are left with more cliff hangers from Archer season 5, episode 2. I feel they are still doing a good job and by levying the unanswered questions and cliffhangers, it gives even more anticipation towards next weeks episode. Will we see Cheryl singing carer takes off? Do they continue with the drug cartel operation after this mishap? All I can say is, Adam Reed took this show in a great new direction and it seems with each episode questions are being answered, while more questions are coming about.
