Samsung has just announced the Galaxy S 5, the new flagship handset. This is the fifth generation of the Galaxy Series and has been rumored for quite some time. The device takes some cues from the Note 3, the flagship phablet for Samsung, and brings many new features. In the United States it will coming on all of the major carriers and a few smaller ones, those being AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, MetroPCS and U.S. Cellular. The device will begin its global launch in April and will be landing on the US carriers throughout the Spring.
The Galaxy S 5 utilizes some of the newest technologies on the market. For WiFi and LTE connectivity, the S 5 supports the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO. It finally brings support for LTE category 4 standard, thus opening the device to new markets. Whether you are at home or out and about, you will be able to stay connected.
Speed is not only from networks on the Galaxy S 5, it is powered by a 2.5GHz Quad core application processor with 2GB of RAM. This should give you a pretty smooth experience with Android 4.4 Kit Kat and a Samsung user interface.
The S 5 is built to make your everyday life better. With a heart rate sensor and pedometer built-in, along with many other features. This is where S Health 3.0 will come in to play, it provides a personal fitness tracker. You can use the built-in sensors or pair it with one of the new Samsung Gear Wearables, like the Gear Fit. Samsung’s newest wearable designed especially for fitness.
The Galaxy S 4 Active was a big hit, after all it brought the grey features of the S 4 into a more durable build. The S 5 is IP67 dust and water-resistant out of the box. This is paired with a more modern design, a perforated pattern cover on the back, helps with this modern style. It will come in a few colors, like charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold. The Galaxy S 5 comes weighs in at 145 grams and 8.1 millimeters thick.
On the Galaxy S 5 is a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 X 1080. You can unlock or lock this display via a biometric fingerprint sensor. On the display you can view the photos you have taken on either the 2 megapixel front camera or the 16 megapixel back camera with LED flash. The back camera has the world’s fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds and the advanced High Dynamic Range. This means each picture you take, should come out clear and vibrant. With Selective Focus, before you take the shot you can focus in on one area of the image and blur out the rest.
Overall, the Galaxy S 5 seems like a welcome addition to the smartphone market and might become the king or queen of the market. It seems like a much bigger improvement, than the S 4 was.
