Verizon Wireless has always been there to restore network connectivity after disasters and then help with domestic violence via their HopeLine program. Now, Michael Wren, Lead Engineer, A.I.M. Staff and HopeLine Collection Coordinator of Verizon, has started his own HopeLine collection drive. Michael got the idea rolling, as he wanted to help his area recover after Hurricane Sandy. Many of their offices employees were hit very hard by the storm and even though many have started to recovery, he wanted to continue giving back to their communities. What the New Jersey offices have begun to do, will hopefully spread to other offices. In total this specific HopeLine collection has collected over 115 phones and is implement at many offices throughout two states. There plan for the future is to continue to help the community and raise awareness for HopeLine!
Press Release
In an effort to support the HopeLine program, the New Jersey Outside Plant and Central Office Engineering teams, under the supervision of Director Victor Calderon, have partnered together to host a HopeLine phone collection.
The idea was put together by Michael Wren following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy to their local area. Employees from some of their offices had been hit very hard by Hurricane Sandy, and while many were able to volunteer their time, others in the community found themselves in need of assistance. It was this idea to continue giving back to their communities that launched the HopeLine collection.
“I had recently read about the HopeLine program and thought to myself, this would be a great way to raise awareness of the program and serve as a great model for other offices to implement,” said Michael Wren, Lead Engineer, A.I.M. Staff and HopeLine Collection Coordinator.
To date, the program has been implemented in two states comprised of seven Engineering offices, and has collected more than 115 phones. Michael and Victor, with the support of their Managers and teams, plan to continue their efforts to raise awareness of the HopeLine program and take great pride in their commitment to their communities.
