Update: We have gotten a comment from Amazon in regards to the shipping times slipping for the Fire TV Stick.
We built a ton of these but customer demand outpaced our supply. We’re excited by the overwhelming customer response and we have teams working hard to build more as quickly as possible. – An Amazon Spokesperson
Yesterday, Amazon unleashed the Fire TV Stick a new streaming device that is very similar to the Chromecast. But, Amazon wanted to thank their Prime customers, both new and old were able to get the Fire TV Stick for just $19 for a limited two days. It was originally slated to begin shipping on November 19th, but shipping times have slipped to after Christmas, more specifically they will arrive after January 1, 2015. Amazon is saying on the webpage for the Stick, that the reason for the delay is due to popular demand.
Popular demand doesn’t seem to much as a surprise, as the Fire TV Stick seems to offer more than the Chromecast and almost as much as the Fire TV streaming box. In fact it features 8GB of internal storage, a dual core processor, and the same OS that is running on the full size box. You can also play games on the device, and you get a physical remote out of the box. The Chromecast does not come with a remote and can sometimes be hard to control due to this.
