Today Verizon Wireless and Motorola have unveiled the new Droid RAZR Family, and they are the Droid RAZR M, Droid RAZR HD, and Droid RAZR MAXX HD! All of these device will be taking advantage of Verizon’s 4G LTE Network! Let’s start off by talking about the Droid RAZR M! The biggest feature about the RAZR M is that it features an edge-to-edge 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. While it has the same display size as the Droid RAZR, the body of the device is more compact. It comes in at just 8.3 millimeters thick! It also has the famous Kevlar backing, making the device thin and tough. For speed you get 4G LTE from Verizon and a 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM. In terms of space you get 8GB of internal space plus a micro SD card slot. It will be running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, and will be updated to JellyBean. On the back of the device you have an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and on the front you have 0.3 megapixel camera. You get a 2000mAh battery, as well as NFC, BlueTooth, WiFi, and more. Next up we have the Droid RAZR HD! And as you may have guessed from reading the name, it brings a better screen to the RAZR family of devices. You get a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display that has a resolution of 720pHD! However, video playback is in 1080pHD. It features an 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM, and is running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. It will eventually be upgraded to Android Jellybean. It does have 16GB of internal space and this can be expanded with a micro SD card. Verizon’s ViewDini application does come pre-loaded on the RAZR HD, this way you can take advantage of the screen by streaming videos from places like Hulu Plus, and more! In terms of cameras you get an 1.3 megapixel on the front and a 8 megapixel with LED flash on the back. You also have a larger battery that comes in at 2530mAh, and they are saying the battery life should last you all day! The Droid RAZR HD will be available before the holidays and will come in either back or white.
Droid RAZR HD Press Photos
And last but not least we have the Droid RAZR MAXX HD! The main feature of the Droid RAZR MAXX was that you get a 21-hour long battery and as you may have expected they included in the RAZR MAXX HD! And they have made the battery life even better rating it at 32-hours with normal use! And it does have a 3300mAh battery, yet still its just 9.4 millimeters thick! It features a 4.7” 720p Super AMOLED HD Display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection! And the same 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM! It is running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, and will eventually be updated to JellyBean. It has 32GB of internal space and has a micro SD card slot! On the back you still have the 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and on the front you get 1.3 megapixel camera. Our friends over at Verizon have sent us the Verizon Droid 4 for us to review. Yes, it is the only “Droid” smartphone that has a slide out keyboard and it is the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone with a slide-out keyboard. It was unveiled at CES 2012, after many months of it being leaked out. It combines the best of both worlds, a touch screen and a physical keyboard. Ah but, does it live up to all of they hype? We will answer that in our full review, so now let’s dive into the full review of the Verizon Droid 4!
Design
The Verizon Droid 4 has a nice design. It comes in at only half of an inch thick, so it is really not that bad. On the top of your device you will find the power/sleep button and headphone jack. Your volume rocker can be found on the right hand side. The left hand side is home to your mini HDMI port and the micro USB port. On the back of the device you with the Verizon logo, 4G LTE logo, Motorola logo, speaker, and the 8 mega-pixel HD camera with LED flash. If you take the back cover off you will find the micro SD card slot and your Verizon 4G LTE SIM Card slot. There is no removable battery on this device but, it is in there somewhere. Towards the right hand bottom corner on the inside, you will find some pins. I am assuming that Verizon will be releasing an extend battery for this device and that is where it will be plugged in. We will let you know if Verizon or Motorola does come out with a such an accessory. To open the back cover you do need a special key and some strength. The back door itself feels very breakable, so do not handle it too much. On the front of the device right above the screen you will find the Motorola logo, a earpiece, and a VGA front facing camera. Under the screen you will find the 4 classic Android buttons (menu, home, back and search) and the Verizon Logo. Sliding out from the left hand side of the device is your laser cut full QWERTY keyboard. We will get into that later. Around the devices edges you will find a nice silver finish, while the rest of the phone is a blackish grey. The back of the phone has some grip to it, this way it won’t fall out of your hand when you are using the device.
Keyboard
Now, the full QWERTY keyboard is what the Droid 4 is famous for. It is the thinnest 4G LTE phone on the market that has a slide-out keyboard. This is by far the best slide-out keyboard smartphone on the market, it make’s the QWERTY keyboard on the Verizon Samsung Stratosphere, look pretty bad. This slide function of the keyboard if very smooth, and it does click when it is fully out. And it won’t get pushed back in by accident, you have to use some force to make it go back in and this adds more durability to the device itself. Now, once the keyboard is out the screen will automatically turn to horizontal mode. If you tape one button it will immediately start searching through your contacts, the web, and more. Keep in mind that you are on Verizon 4G LTE so it will not take long at all to see those results you have been waiting for. The keys themselves are both slightly raised and back light. Making them very easy to use and to see at night. They Android buttons are not in key format, but worry not as they are just a few steps away at the side of the screen. However, since they are capacitive touch buttons they do not turn when the keyboard slide’s out. This is something I would have liked to seen on this device, so hopefully with the Droid 5 we will see it. Congrats to Verizon and Motorola for a great job with the keyboard on this guy.
Hardware
Now, Motorola did not just make the keyboard good on the Droid 4 they also gave it some other nice features. For starters it has a 1.2GHz Dual-Core Processor, 1GB of RAM, and Verizon 4G LTE speeds. So it is appropriate to say that this device is very fast. There is zero lag time when swiping between screens or opening the keyboard. As with any device everyone once in a while it may take a little while longer, but for the most part the Droid 4 does very well. The display is where Motorola could have done much better. It has a 4.0 inch qHD display with a resolution of 960 X 540. This is also known as a PenTile display, but it also has a scratch and scrape resistant glass on it. The screen does not perform very well, the colors are not rich and the contrast of the display could be better. However, the viewing angles are very good. It has a 8GB of internals storage and it does have a micro SD card slot that holds up to a 32GB micro SD card. On the back you have an 8 megapixel HD camera with LED flash. It does record video in full 1080pHD quality. On the front you have a VGA front-facing camera.
Network
The Droid 4 runs on Verizon’s insanely fast 4G LTE network. Call quality on the Droid 4 was great and there was almost no static. Both us and the person on the other end, had no issues hearing one another. In our area were we tested this device we had anywhere from 3-5 bars of service. Please keep in mind that Verizon’s 4G LTE service in your area may vary. If no 4G LTE is available it will connect to Verizon’s 3G Network. We did run speediest on the Droid 4 via the “SPEEDTEST.NET” application. You can see our results from the test below.
Our speed test were very good with Verizon’s 4G LTE Network. Our lowest download speed was 7.96Mbps, while our highest was an awesome 20.75Mbps. Our lowest upload speed was 3.98Mbps, while our highest was a good 11.82Mbps. Keep in mind that your data connection varies on how strong Verizon’s 4G LTE Network is in your area. The Verizon Droid 4′s Networks is great!
Operating System
The Verizon Droid 4 By Motorola is currently running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a Motorola User Interface. However both Verizon and Motorola have said that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to the Droid 4 and it’s close relatives the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. No date has been given but, I’m assuming it will be sometime in the near future. In terms of pre-loaded apps on this device, there are a bunch of them. They are Amazon Kindle, Verizon Apps, Blockbuster, Google App Suite, YouTube, Device Setup, Emergency Alerts, Flash Player Settings, GoToMeeting, Help Center, Guided Tours, Let’s Gold 2, Madden NFL 12, Android Market, Mobile Hotspot, MOG Music, MOTOACTV, MOTOPRINT, Music, My Accounts, My Verizon Mobile Netflix, NFL Mobile, QuickOffice, Slacker, Slingbox, Smart Actions, Verizon Video,VZNavigator, VCast Tones, and more. Overall, the app selection is very similar to that of the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. The operating system and applications run very fast on the Droid 4. This thanks to it’s 1.2GHz Dual-Core Processor and 1GB of RAM.
Bottom Line
The Verizon Droid 4 By Motorola is a great phone! It is by far the best slider on the market. It runs on Verizon’s insanely fast 4G LTE Network. It has speed by itself as well with a 1.2GHz Dual-Core processor and 1GB of RAM. It features an 8 megapixel HD camera with LED flash on the back. The slide-out keyboard come sin very handy, is says to use, is backlight, and much more! The only bad part is that the screen is not the best out there, but it does get the job done a good amount of the time. If you’re looking at a new phone and you are on Verizon be sure to check out and consider the Droid 4. The Verizon Droid 4 by Motorola retails for $199.99 with a 2-year contract. Our friends over at Verizon have sent us the Droid RAZR MAXX for us to review. Most people who bought the original Droid RAZR, may be a little mad. The only difference between the Droid RAZR and the Droid RAZR MAXX is that the MAXX features a 21 hour battery. But, is that enough to upgrade, read on to find out. Now, let’s get started with the full review of the Verizon Droid RAZR MAXX!
Design
The Verizon Droid RAZR MAXX features the same design as the Droid RAZR with only some minor differences. It is thicker, but not buy much. It is still thicker than some of the other phones on the market. It comes in at 8.99 millimeters thick, while the RAZR comes in at 7.1 millimeter. So while it’s not the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone on the market, it is most certainly not the thickest phone on the market. The back of device is made of Kevlar, which gives you more protection. On top of the screen you have the Motorola logo and a 1.3 mega-pixel front facing camera. Under the screen you will find the Verizon logo and the touch Android buttons. On the back you have the 8 mega-pixel HD camera with LED Flash, speaker, Motorola, Verizon, and 4G LTE logos. On the right hand-side you will find the power/sleep button and the volume rocker. On the left hand side you will find, under a cover, the 4G LTE SIM card slot and micro SD card slot. On the top of the device you have the headphone jack, micro USB port, and the HDMI port. The Droid RAZR MAXX is currently only available in black, but more colors are always a possibility. As many of you known the Droid RAZR is available in black, white, and purple now.
Battery
The Battery on the Droid RAZR MAXX is the biggest feature of the phone. The Droid RAZR MAXX’s battery life has continued to amaze me since day one. I had it working for a solid 20 hours of phone calls, streaming video, and more. I have only charged it twice since receiving it and it blows me away every time. This is also with full brightness and it doesn’t bring the devices to battery to a fault what so ever. It has a 3,300mAh battery, this doubles the original battery of the Droid RAZR. I was expecting amazing battery life. And while it says it gets 21 Hours, we pushed it and we got around 20 Hours. Maybe if you don’t use it as much as we did or if you had Motorola Smart Actions turned on, you could have gotten 21 Hours. Either way if you need a large battery look no where but the Droid RAZR MAXX.
Hardware
The Droid RAZR MAXX is identical to the RAZR besides the battery and the thickness. So we will be brief here in the Hardware section. In terms of a battery you get a 3,300mAh battery inside. For network you have access to Verizon’s 4G LTE Network, which is insanely fast. The screen is also the same, I seems like Verizon and Motorola missed the chance of making another huge and revolutionary device by not improving the screen. It still features 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD Display, with a resolution of 960 X 450. While the screen is good we have seen better on many other devices. It has a 1.2GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM. It has a total of 32GB of Space, 16GB internal and a 16GB microSD card. So space is no issue on this device. I would have liked to see some hardware improvements but, they are nowhere to be found. Maybe in a future version of the device they will be added.
Operating System
As you may have expected the Droid RAZR MAXX has an identical operating system to that of the Droid RAZR. With that begin said we will be brief in the Operating System section as well. It is running the same build and firmware as the Droid RAZR, it seems as if Verizon and Motorola are holding stuff back from us. It is running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with the Motorola User Interface. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is coming, it will also be coming to the Droid RAZR. Pre-loaded apps are for the most part the same as well. You get Amazon Kindle, Verizon Apps, BlockBuster, Google App Suite, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Device Setup, Emergency Alerts, Flash Player Settings, GoToMeeting, Guided Tours, Help Center, IM, Let’s Golf 2, Madden NFL 12, Android Market, Messaging, Mobile Hotspot, MOG Music, MOTOACTV, MOTOPRINT, Music, My Accounts, My Files, My Gallery, My Music, My Verizon Mobile, Netflix, NFL Mobile, Quickoffice, Slacker, Slingbox, Smart Actions, Social Location, Social Network, Task Manager, V CAST Tones, Verizon Video, Video Surf, Voice Commands, Voice Search, VZ Navigator, and YouTube. It comes with a good amount of items pre-loaded and if that isn’t enough you can get more in the Android Market. One thing that is different is that thanks to the larger battery you can use the operating system and apps more on one full charge than the original RAZR.
Camera
We did not give you a camera test for the original Droid RAZR. Ah but, since the cameras are identical on the Droid RAZR MAXX you get the camera test now! The camera app is exactly the same as the RAZR’s. In terms of the front facing camera, it is 1.3 mega-pixels. It is there for taking picture of yourself and/or selfless and video calling with your friends and family. The quality is okay, and is what we would expect for a front-facing camera. On the back is where this bad boy shines. It has an 8 mega-pixel HD camera, that put the Galaxy Nexus camera to shame. It records HD in 1080ph HD and if you take photos or video at night, no worries thanks to it’s LED flash. You can see our video camera test below!
Bottom Line
The Droid RAZR MAXX is pretty much a better version of the Droid RAZR. It’s biggest feature is a huge 21 hour battery life, we only received around 20 hours while testing. It still features the 8 mega-pixel back camera, the not so great display, 1.2GHz Dual-Core Processor, and more. However, I feel it is one of the best phones in Verizon’s lineup. So what if it adds some more thickness having a 21 Hour battery tops it all. However, the Droid RAZR MAXX leaves the original Droid RAZR buyers in the dust. It does have the best battery of any phone currently on the market and for that one reason you should certainly consider it if you are looking for a new Verizon smartphone. Verizon is throwing to many RAZR devices at the consumer. I would have just come out with the MAXX and the first place. However, that is Verizon’s decision and not mine, but hopefully you are happy with your RAZR as it is a great phone. Sure we would have liked to see improvements with screen and other items, but what we got was an awesome new battery. It will cost you $299.99 with a 2-year contract from Verizon. Without a contract it will cost you a total of $649.99 . You Can Get Your Verizon Droid RAZR MAXX, By Clicking Here. At the time of this review Verizon is offering an awesome deal, “Twice The Data. For The Same Price”. You Can Get More Info On This Deal, By Clicking Here. We would like to thank Verizon Wireless for providing us with a copy of the “Verizon Wireless Droid RAZR MAXX By Motorola”.

Well, Verizon Wireless will beginning selling a version of the Droid RAZR(Black) that only cost $199.99 . The catch is that the micro SD card is not included with this version of the device. The Verizon Motorola Droid XYBOARD is Motorola’s flagship tablet using the Android Honey Comb operating system. It is upgradable but for this review I used the stock 3.2 operating system. Now, let’s get started with the full review of Verizon XYBOARD 10.1
Body
On the outside, you’ll find a large 10.1’ LCD screen which had great detail and produced beautiful images. At the top, the XYBOARD sports a 5 mega-pixel camera on both the front and back of the device. The left side has deeply recessed buttons for power and volume which some times could be hard to find and press. Motorola conveniently placed the micro HDMI and charging ports at the bottom for neat connectivity of the device. All in all a good feeling tablet.
The XYBOARD physically is similar to most tablets. It is very slim and has good weight at 603 grams, giving it a good feeling in the hands. The feeling of the device in hand is aided by the soft touch, rubber material that the coats the back and buttons. This is very important and the biggest plus to the device for one reason: It doesn’t feel delicate. Which is GOOD!
Why is this important? Tablets have been burdened with the need to be thin and light while having a high-resolution large glass screen, and a cpu; all very delicate parts with no protection. This has pledged (or aided business wise) the market for tablets as everyone is almost required to have a case for their device to protect it. Tablets have been available for a few years now but rarely do you see them out as freely as they were designed to be. Most users conceal their tablets and use them in the same fashion as a notebook computer which defeats the purpose of the tablet in some ways. With the XYBOARD being made the way it is, it felt truly portable and ready to be used everywhere. This was an eye opener as millions of tablets have been sold world-wide by many manufacturers though many are still being used like their predecessor, the notebook computer. I truly enjoyed the portability of the XYBOARD because it allowed me to transport my computing, FREELY, unlike many of the other tablets I have used. For anyone looking for a computer that feels like it can truly go anywhere, Motorola has you covered that with the XYBOARD. Also, having a sticker on the back with the serial number and other info, made the design go down a bit. It would have been better if it was just included in the operating system.
The Operating system
The XYBOARD’s operating system simply is not for the novice user. I would consider myself to be very technologically savvy and at many times I was puzzled by the Android operating system. If you’re already familiar with the operating system, you’ll have no problems getting around that. If you are planning on purchasing this for a computer novice, tablet novice, or android novice, you might want to think about it before doing so. This is due to a lack of introduction to the operation system. Androids are common but their operating system could use more text for buttons and an introductory walk through in the beginning. However, if you are willing to go with XYBOARD 10.1 you can attend a Verizon Wireless Workshop. The UI suffers significantly because of the XYBOARD’s processoring. This was evident in just about every application I used. From scrolling to keyboard use (typing is a nightmare), the XYBOARD’s 10.1 model really disappointed due to slow response times for touch sensitivity. I am unsure if the slow response is due to the screen’s digitalizer or simply the device’s 1.2ghz dual-core processor which is lightning fast on the 8.2 model. This was major draw back because I commonly found myself seeking other devices to do simple tasks, especially ones that involved lengthy typing. That being said, the XYBOARD is not for the daily typer. Also, at times the certain apps like the Android Market become very glitchy.
Network
The Verizon Droid XYBOARD 10.1 uses Verizon’s insanely fast 4G LTE Network. While I was testing the XYBOARD 10.1 I was browsing the web insanely fast. Keep in mind that in the New York Metro Area the rollout is almost complete. They will have the entire country done by 2013. While using the tab i had around 4 or 5 bars when using their network. Having a great network is very important. As when you take your tablet with you, there may not be a WiFi connection always there. Having access to Verizon’s 4G LTE Network was a huge help and was awesome to experience and use.
Camera
The Camera on the XYBOARD was mediocre. After taking a photo in a well-lit room and getting mediocre results, I went outside to test the camera’s capabilities and got the same results. The image was rather grainy in appearance from both cameras but will do the job for a quick pic like most tablets. The camera seems robust and well protected but don’t get your hopes up for point-n-shoot quality images.
Conclusion
The XYBOARD is for the android user only… It won’t make you jump ship if you are using a tablet my another manufacture unless you own an older android tablet and want a bigger screen. If you require a slim tablet that’s ready to go anywhere, this might be the tablet for you. My personal recommendation would be to go with the 8.2 XYBOARD for it’s faster response to touch commands but if you require a bigger screen, you might want to look elsewhere or wait for a version with a faster processor than that 1.2ghz processor inside this one. The Verizon Droid XYBOARD 10.1 retails for $529.99 for the 16GB, $629.99 for the 32GB and $729.99 for the 64GB. You Can Get More Info On The Verizon Motorola Droid XYBOARD 10.1, By Clicking Here. Last week at CES 2012 Verizon Wireless and Motorola announced the Droid RAZR MAXX. The Droid RAZR MAXX features an increased battery life, it will last 21 hours on one charge. It is designed for the user who multitask all day long and all night long. It is a truly amazing that they have a battery that last 21 hours on once charge. They said that it will retail for $299.99 with a 2-year contract. It also stores 32GB of space. However, Verizon and Motorola did not sate when the Droid RAZR MAXX would be landing. But, it seems as if Motorola has let the cat out of the bag. On there website for the Droid RAZR MAXX, earlier today it said, “Available 1/25, From Motorola And Verizon“. It no longer says that on the site as of now. Instead it says, “Available Soon, From Motorola And Verizon“. I’m hopping that the Droid RAZR MAXX is landing on the 26th and Motorola and Verizon retracted that statement as it was not supposed to be announced yet. You Can See The Webpage For The Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, By Clicking Here. Let us know if you saw it give out the release date early as well. We have reached out to Verizon Wireless for a comment but, have not heard back yet. We will update if we hear or find anything else.
