I Liked them… a lot!
Nokia made it’s first splash with Microsoft a few months back when they released the Nokia Lumia 900. Running Microsoft’s newly introduced Windows 8 software, the phone had a light launch back in March of this year and hasn’t made much of a splash since.
But it was good.
It’s seems Nokia didn’t find the phone to be a failure as they kept 90% of the original Lumia 900 in the Lumia 920. Showcased at a swanky loft in Manhattan for the first time this past week, Nokia impressed with Lumia 920, the latest update to their flagship phone and the introduction of Lumia 820. The party showcased the collaborations made with JBL and Monster to aid a list of new fancy added features. The phones boast a slew of new additives such as speakers and headphones for easy pairing. Pairing is done with Near Field Technology (NFC) allowing the phone to connect to devices it makes contact with. The NFC feature worked flawlessly with wireless speakers from JBL and presumably indestructible headphones from Monster. The deal gets sweeter as Nokia breaks the mold with built-in wireless charging done on many of the accessories. The build of Nokia’s Lumia 920 and 820 seems strong and the color choices offer a variety from sleek to bold. All of the accessories matched the handsets in color, inspiring an Andy Warholish color pallet to the demonstration lounge.
Lumia 920 is visually an attractive phone thanks to the Windows 8 home screen and Nokia’s PureMotion display. Lumia 820 and 920 share the Snapdragon™ S4 Processor found in a few other smart phones like the Galaxy S III and Droid Razr HD, so speed is on par with the competition. It is Nokia’s collaboration with Microsoft that truly make this phone visually stunning.
Nokia’s ultra sharp display makes the need to measure display refreshment a thing of the past. It’s fair to say this phone displays the most fluid OS movements on the market and it is a joy to view from any angle. Lumia 920‘s PureMotion display also boasts Microsoft’s new found love for juxtaposition. Windows 8‘s ultra sharp and clean OS appearance helps any novice of the phone grasp the phone’s interface. Both Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 share the Windows 8 platform but only 920 owners get the PureMotion display.
In reflection, it’s safe to say that both displays look incredible. As I jumped from photo demonstration to wireless audio, it became hard to notice which phone was which without trying. Both Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 share vibrant solid color bodies and impressive screens. Visually, it seems you can’t go wrong with a Lumia, but the Lumia 920 seemed to always shine with a larger more immersive display. The curved display gave you a decent amount of privacy while keeping the above lighting glare at a minimum. Finger prints seem to be unavoidable as the Lumia will show your finger’s tracks like other smart phones do but the body however will show less.
It seems Nokia has a success with the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 as I could easily recommend either to anyone currently interested in a smart phone. Though I had a similar opinion with the Lumia 900, the additions made to the Lumia 920 make this fixer upper a true competitor in the market. An official launch date nor pricing have been released yet but we look forward to the launch of Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 this fall.

July 09, 2012
Summer is normally the laid-back, quiet season for most folks but here at AT&T the summer is full of exciting news about our Windows Phone portfolio. A couple of weeks ago, we confirmed we’d carry Windows Phone 8 devices beginning later this year. Today we’re excited to announce that beginning July 15, the award-winning Nokia Lumia 900 will be available in a fun pink color via direct fulfillment in AT&T stores and online at http://www.att.com. If you’re looking for a way to make a statement with your smartphone and stand out this summer, the pink Lumia 900 is definitely the way. Of course, you still have the option to pick it up in cyan, black or white, as well.
Nokia is also bringing a lot of new enhancements to the Lumia 900. Nokia Lumia users will begin to see software updates for Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh in the coming weeks, which will add several new capabilities to their devices including flip-to-silence. In addition, new features – including camera extras and DLNA streaming have just gone live in the Marketplace. A usage tracking counter and a new contact sharing feature are also coming in the near future. Nokia also announced that the hit Zynga titles Words with Friends and Draw Something will be coming to Windows Phone this fall – and exclusive to Lumia owners for the first 60 days.
Overall, we have a lot of fun things coming down the pipeline with Windows Phone in the coming months and hope you’ll stop by to check them out. Stay tuned!
While at CE Week I stopped by the Dish booth. They showed off Dish Hopper to me, this is one of their newest features. There are 2 types of boxes that work with the hopper package. You have the Hopper which is the main box and then you have Joeys. The Hopper contains 2 1- Terabyte hard drive inside of it, for the most part it is a multi-room DVR that has some very special features. Then the Joeys are connected to the Hopper, and you can access all of your recordings from there. The Joeys connect to the Hopper via COAX. For every Hopper you can have 3 Joeys. Let’s dive into some of the awesome features that come with Hopper from Dish. First of all you get PrimeTimeAnytime, this will certainly be a popular feature. Dish partnered with ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. There is PrimeTime Content on these 4 channels every night, and the Hopper automatically records the programs during this time. It is then saved on one of the 1-Terabyte hard-drvies and saves it for 8 days. AutoHop is also a really cool feature that allows you to automatically skip over all of the commercials. This way the content runs as it was meant to be. You know that a show has the AutoHop feature because you will see a small red kangaroo in the corner of that program’s button. When you select a show that has Auto Hop you can choose whether or not to turn AutoHop on. And this feature is free and as of now it is excessive to the Hopper. And yes it is available on the Joeys as well. Dish also has one of the nicest menus as well, it moves really quickly thanks to a fast processor inside. It has the fastest processor out of an Satellite Box on the market, a 750 MHz processor. It also really easy to use and you also have some nice applications that work over an internet connection. This applications are Facebook, Twitter, Games, and much more! Rotten Tomatoes is built-in to help you find the best movies and entertainment to watch. You also have Video-On-Demand which gives you access to thousands of titles at your control. If you like brining content on the go with you can connect a “SlingBox” to Hopper. You listen to the hottest music via SiriusXM Satellite radio on your TV. If your like me you lose your remote control a good about of times, well Dish has something that will make the search easier. And that is a remote locator. Overall, Dish does have some of the other television providers beat with the Hopper. I am very excited about the Hopper from Dish and cannot wait to check it out even more. Be sure to check out the full gallery below! For more info keep checking NJTechReviews or go to this site: http://www.dish.com/technology/hopper/ .
While at CE Week we stopped by HMDX Audio’s booth and they were showing off their latest creation. And it is Jam a Bluetooth Speaker! Even though that the speaker itself is as big an organ or a tennis ball, it can produce some really good sounds. It is available in six colors, and those are Strawberry, Grape, Blueberry, Blackberry, Apricot and Apple. It comes packaged in what looks like a jar of jam. So, as you can tell this was most likely done on purpose, and it makes for an awesome design. The naming is also all different types of Jam. Now, let’s talk about sounds quality for the price you are getting some pretty good sound. Keep in mind that it retails for just $39.99, so they are opening up the market of Bluetooth speakers to all different people. This would be perfect for a dorm room, a kitchen, or really any room that you want to bring music too you. It can certainly get louder than your Bluetooth enabled device that you are streaming from, for the most part. It can stay connected for 30 feet and it runs off of a lithium-ion battery. That should deliver up to 4 hours of playing music. I cannot wait to do the full review on the Jam Bluetooth Speaker. But, from the hands-on this seems like an awesome device. You can see a full photo gallery below. Jam is available now from http://jamspeaker.com. It will be making its way to Bed, Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Kohl’s, Toys “R” Us, and Walmart in the coming weeks. We will keep you updated with all of the news about Jam!
While at CE Week we stopped by Seidio’s booth and they were showing off their latest and greatest cases. Let’s begin with an awesome case for the Verizon Wireless Droid RAZR MAXX. Many people enjoy watching movies or streaming video’s on their smartphones. However, sometimes you don’t want to hold it in your hand. Well the RAZR MAXX ACTIVE with Kickstand, provides protection for your phone and unique way to hold it up for you. It has Shock Absorption built-in, thanks to it’s two interlocking layers. You can open up the kickstand when you want to use it and you can push it back in, when you are done with it. It will cost you $34.95 . They also offer many cases for the HTC EVO 4G LTE, like the CONVERT case. This gives you the ultimate protection for your phone, it is like a heavy-duty North Face Jacket for your phone. It is 4 cases that interlock with each other. First you have the Surface Case, then the Rugged Skin/Skeleton, and then Convert Holster, and finally the Screen Guard. This will give you full protection for your phone. This full heavy-duty case will cost you $49.95. Another case for the EVO 4G LTE is the Active with Metal Kickstand. This is very similar to the case for the Droid RAZR MAXX that we mentioned above. Although, this one seemed a little tougher. This case retails for $34.96 . Overall, I was very impressed with Seidio’s entire collection of cases. And the pricing is not that bad for the amount of protection that you are getting. If you are in the market for a case I would definitely check out Seidio. For more info please visit: http://www.seidioonline.com/ or http://seidio.com/ . Please check out the gallery below.
