Our friends over at LG have sent us the Boost Mobile LG Venice for us to review! LG has been on a worldwide tour of high-end hand sets like the Optimus G and Nexus 4! They have also put out some mid-range hand sets like the AT&T LG Escape and then for pre-paid they had the LG Motion 4G for MetroPCS. And now they have a new offering for Boost Mobile and that is the Venice. It has a slim design, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.3-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass and more! But, should the Boost Mobile LG Venice, be your next smartphone? We will answer that in the full review, which begins right now!
Hardware
Boost Mobile has a big lineup filled with some good hardware. So, how does the LG Venice stick out? Well, let’s start off with it’s 4.3-inch Color IPS TFT touchscreen display with a layer of protection from Corning Gorilla Glass. The display give you super vibrant images and colors really pop out. The graphics from the software look great and happen quickly. The speed of the device is thanks to its 1GHz processor with 768MB of RAM. It keeps the device moving and it works very well. You get a 1700mAh battery that will last most of the day with moderate use. However, you may want to bring a micro USB cable or charger just in case. This device is running on Boost Mobile’s 3G Network and does feature WiFi connectivity. On the front you get a VGA front facing camera that works well for taking selfies or video chatting on the go. On the back you have a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash that is similar to the ones on the AT&T LG Escape and the LG Motion 4G for Metro PCS. It performs well in some situations but, in other situations it could perform better. If you have good lighting it will work great and give you vibrant images. If lighting is not that good the image may appear blurry and dark. In terms of storage on the device you will get 4GB of internal storage and there is a micro SD card slot. You get a 2GB micro SD card slot that is included with the device. Overall, the hardware on the Boost Mobile LG Venice is very nice.
Software
The Boost Mobile LG Venice is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a LG user interface. For instance you get LG QuickMemo, this great and easy way to take screenshots. QuickMemo will let you take it to the next level, you can write a memo on the image, draw on it, and much more! You can share the image directly from the application and it automatically gets saved into your gallery. Let’s say you are meeting a friends for lunch and you want to show them on a map where to meet you, well with LG QuickMemo simply pull up the location in maps and then take a screenshot. From there write a quick message and send it your friend via a text message! It is a simple way to let them know and is much more creative than just a simple text message. You also get a more organized experience with an easier to use app draw and easy to use widgets. Since this is a Sprint/Boost Mobile device you get Mobile ID, this will let you find a custom user interface that you like. There is Boost ID Pack and many ID packs from TV stations like MTV. This will let you customize your phone to the next level. You do get Visual Voicemail on the Boost Mobile LG Venice as well. In terms of pre-loaded applications you get Backup, Application Manager, Boost Zone, Google App Suite, Google Chrome, Memo, QuickMemo, Mobile ID, Polaris Office, SmartShare, Task Manager, Voicemail, YouTube, and more. Overall, the LG Venice has a very nice software experience.
Design
LG has some great designs in the past year, for instance the Optimus G was great and felt really good in your hand. The LG Venice is not as high-end as the Optimus G, but it is made to look that way. The back cover of the device is plastic material, it has silver color with some edge work on the device. It adds for a nice grip, this way it wont fall out of your hand. I feel like they did this to make it look like a higher end device. On the back of the device you will find the 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, a LG logo, and a speaker. If you pop the back cover off you will find the 1700mAh battery and a micro SD card slot. Out of the box you will get a 2GB micro SD card with the purchase of the device. Going around the device you have a nice aluminum siding and this goes with the main color of the phone. The phone itself is a bunch of different shades of silver with black on the front. The left hand side of the device is home to the volume rocker and it is a lighter silver, this way it doesn’t blend directly with the color of the sides. The bottom of the device is home to the micro USB port and the main microphone. On the top of the device you will find the secondary microphone, headphone jack, and power/sleep button. Above the screen you will find the VGA front facing camera and a LG logo. Below the display you will find the physical home button as well as 2(two) touch buttons. Those buttons being the back and menu buttons. Overall, I like the design of the LG Venice as it is simple.
