Motorola’s Advanced Technology Unit will not be going with the rest of the company to Lenovo, they are staying at Google. They are now Google’s Advanced Technology And Projects unit. They have been working on something called Project Ara, which really shows that the future has a lot in store. For instance, they are the people behind the modular smartphones. The idea that each smartphone can be customized, to your liking, with different modules. One for a super fast processor or a really long battery.

They have just announced the Ara Developers’ Conferences, the first of their kind. They are planning three for 2014 so far and the first one will be an online webcast. They will be doing interactive question answering, but a few lucky people can attend the actual conference. The first conference will be held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California on April 15th-16th 2014. The first focus of these conferences will be on the MDK, the Module Development Kit, they expect these to be released in April. They will provide a full detailed walk-through of the kit, feedback sessions, what is planned, and more. Being announced as well will be a series of prize challenges for module developers, this will be sure to spark even more interest.

Full details on the other conferences will be coming soon. In the mean time you can register for the first Ara Developers Conference online. They do mention, that the conference is meant for developers and space is limited. The priority for the attendance at the physical venue, is for developers, with that being said they plan to have many different developers there. Whether you are a large OEM or a small one person operation. With all of that said, they suggest non-developers and enthusiasts of the project, to watch online. Check Out The Registration Page, By Clicking Here. You can see a gallery of newly released photos below.
