Verizon Wireless has long been rumored to be turning on their VoLTE network for quite some time and earlier this month AT&T confirmed their HD Voice network. Today, Verizon confirmed their plans of VoLTE or Voice Over LTE and while it isn’t coming today or tomorrow, it will be a national rollout. It will be coming this later this year and will work with several devices. By doing a national rollout of this service, it can be a seamless transition for all of their customers. The service will be an HD Voice experience, using the AMR-wideband standard, it will provide clear voice calls and room for future enhancements. Leading up to the rollout of VoLTE, Verizon will be pushing updates to the capable smartphones so that they can have HD Voice. After the launch occurs, many of the VoLTE devices will come enabled at the time of purchase. In order to make an VoLTE call, both devices must be capable and both markets must have VoLTE enabled. Unique to Verizon is video calling over VoLTE, this means the ability to change their calls instantly from voice-only to voice and video. Coming in the future via Rich Communications Services or RCS, customers can look forward to large file transfer, more robust group messaging, and more location sharing. Verizon wants to make sure they go about VoLTE in the right way and the first step is a national rollout, then following it up with some great new features. We will update you once more concrete details about the rollout timing become available.
