T-Mobile just had their Un-Carrier 5.0 event, their fifth in their series of Un-Carrier announcements. Today, they continue with their LTE and VoLTE rollout. John, the Un-CEO, Legre took the stage and was quite happy with these announcements and his funny attitude was still on board. T-Mobile is Data Strong, they claim to have more network capacity per customer than with any other national wireless company. They are continuing there strong networks and are making several expansions.
The first is there Wideband LTE rollout, with this spectrum you get a 15+15MHz network. These increase the network speeds to upwards of around 150Mbps and they are bringing this too 16 markets across the country. These markets with Wideband LTE are Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, Columbus, OH, Dallas, TX, Detroit, MI, Honolulu, HI, Houston, TX, Jacksonville, FL, Los Angeles, CA, Minneapolis, MN, Mobile, AL, Orlando, FL, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Tampa, FL, and Upstate, NY. Hopefully they will expand this 15+15MHz network to New Jersey and New York City. John Legre on stage also said they will eventually get to a 20+20MHz network, which will give even faster speeds. Plus by the end of the month, T-Mobile LTE will have covered more than 230 million people.
Next up, John Legre announced an expansion of their VoLTE network. They have 15 VoLTE markets now and they offer many VoLTE devices, in fact more devices than any other carrier. They plan to offer VoLTE nationwide by the end of 2014. Currently VoLTE is in Atlanta, GA, Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, Long Island, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Minneapolis, MN, New Jersey, New York, NY, Philadelphia, PA, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, and Washington, DC. It is great to see that New Jersey and New York, NY are now in T-Mobile’s VoLTE networks. Starting tomorrow, via an over-the-air update, the Galaxy S 5 will be a VoLTE device.
