The home security, home monitoring, and home automation markets have been heating up. Today, we have a new player emerging, more specifically a simple, completely plug free, home security camera called Homeboy. The big story with Homeboy, is the camera itself, as it is completely wireless and has a 3 month battery, meaning that there is no need to have it plugged in. In essence, it simplistic design represents what they are trying to do, making the usually hard task of home monitoring become easier. With that in mind, they have designed a simple camera that magnetically attaches to the base. Meaning that it could be placed on the ceiling, a wall, a desk, or really anywhere. On top of this, from a software perspective they have integration with IFFT, and it can be a social security system. Which could allow you to give access to close friends, this way they can have your back as well. You will get notified if these is movement or for what you choose to be notified by, while Homeboy doesn’t have a live stream going 24/7, when it detects movement it pulls the stream up and lets you see what is going.
In terms of quality of the footage, it is not 1080pHD, instead Homeboy has gone a different route. Since it isn’t a constant stream and you’re using it on your mobile device, the quality doesn’t have to be that good, they choose to give it a resolution of 640 X 480. So clearly, they are not going in the line of Dropcam or directly with Piper, they are not a monitoring service but instead a security service. As of now, Homeboy is in a public beta and you can get one for $149.99, coming in 2015 they will be offering no-contract monthly security monitoring plans. In which you can have someone keep watch over your feed, and they can alert you if something goes wrong. You Can Get More Information On Homeboy, By Clicking Here.
