2015 marks the fifth year anniversary of the AT&T It Can Wait campaign, of course this is a mission to stop texting while driving or rather getting distracted by using your phone when your driving. However, even with the amount of work that AT&T has done, there is still more to do. In a newly published survey, the results show that 7 out of 10 people still use there smartphone while they are driving. This notion has sparked AT&T to expand the campaign and to let people know of other distractions that smartphones can cause.
First off, AT&T has been working with Reel FX, an animation studio, and today they are launching the It Can Wait Driving Simulation. This is a new virtual reality application, that is available now for iOS and Android, that can work with Google Cardboard. The app can give you a 360 degree view of what it is like to use your phone while your driving and the potential consequences that can occur. While you don’t need Google Cardboard or a similar headset, it can enhance the experience. Either way you can check out the application at ItCanWait.com/VR.
AT&T has built a full simulator, using the Samsung Gear VR headset and Bose QuietComfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones, and it will be going on tour across the United States. This tour will take it to schools, fairs, partner companies visits and will help to raise awareness for the campaign.

A still image from “Close to Home”In the past AT&T has introduced short films and ad campaigns to spread awareness for the campaign. This year they have released the new short film Close to Home, which was shot in slow motion cinematography, this means they take about 1000 shots per second. The film follows what appears to be a normal day before it becomes life-threatening when a driver makes an unsafe choice while driving. It is a very moving piece and highly suggest you watch it, along with the three new advertisement spots that AT&T will start airing today. You can see the short film Close to Home and the three new advertisements’ below.
