On social media this week, news broke out that Verizon Wireless was not listed as a partner on the Samsung Pay webpage. This is of course Samsung’s answer to Apple Pay and the fourth coming Android Pay, but this version has a few tricks up their sleeves. Samsung Pay will work at pretty much any reader thanks to the magnetic strip built-in to the device that it is compatible with. But, Verizon Wireless is not listed as a partner, as of yet, but this doesn’t mean they will not support it.
Truth be told, Verizon takes their time with testing out new devices and especially new features. You might remember the whole fiasco with Google Wallet a few years back when they had the Galaxy Nexus, but at the time they were pushing their own mobile payment platform. I am hoping that Verizon realizes the popularity of Samsung Pay and that through their testing, it shows them that is a safe and secure platform.
I reached out to Verizon Wireless to hear there side of the story and we got this comment back:
“We are in the process of evaluating Samsung Pay and we will keep our customers updated on any news regarding the service.” – Albert Aydin, PR Manager for Verizon Wireless
So they are still evaluating and this is good news, and they have a solid amount of time. Samsung Pay does not launch in the United States until September 28th, which is practically October. It made it’s launch in Korea earlier today, and tomorrow Samsung’s latest devices the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be landing in the United States and around the world. We will keep you up to date and let you know once Verizon Wireless has made it’s decision about Samsung Pay. You can check out first look video with Samsung Pay below.
