RootMetrics has just announced the results from their latest national network performance report and the results from earlier tests seem to be repeating themselves. Verizon was rated number 1 in overall network performance for the fifth consecutive time. This is a big honor for the carrier and it shows that investing heavily in the network delivers results.
Keep in mind that RootMetrics tests the top four carriers in the country, those being AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. They are also an independent third-party that physically tests the network with off-the-shelf smartphones for each carrier. This testing period is using results that were tracked from July through December of 2015. In fact they drove over 232,000 miles through all 50 states to get these results.
RootMetrics tests each carrier in six areas, those being overall, reliability, speed, data, call, and text performance. Verizon got first in all the categories, expect for text performance in which they were tied for first place. The carrier got a total of 272 RootScore Awards, including 46 states for overall performance, 47 states for network performance, 44 states for data performance, 41 states for network speed, 45 states for call performance, and 49 states for text performance.
Verizon’s network is proving to be fast and reliable, they have invested over $111 billion since 2000. Last year alone Verizon invested $11.7 billion in upgrades and updates to the network. Chuck Hamby, Executive Director of Corporate Communications for Verizon had to say this about the announcement:
“Verizon customers were the real winners in the latest RootMetrics national network performance report – and the results didn’t happen by accident: VZW invested $11.7 billion in its network last year, more than any other carrier (T-Mobile announced today that they invested less than $5 billion in their network in 2015). That’s a 5th straight overall ranking — but our focus already has turned to number six, because our customers depend on us to be even better tomorrow.”
It will be interesting to see what AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have to say about these results, and what future RootMetrics results will show.
