The LG G5 is the latest flagship and modular phone from LG, it is arriving after the launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. And our reviews of those two devices are incoming very soon. I decided to stop by my local Verizon store on the LG G5 launch day, which turned out to be April 1st 2016.
It certainly is a neat device and offers a more unique design then that of the Galaxy S7. I will say that having the main menu buttons for the OS built-in to the bottom of the screen screams Nexus like device, but you do a get a chin at the physical bottom. This is due to the modular build which will let you swap batteries out on the fly and potentially add new experiences to your device.
I will say that having a tactile fingerprint sensor and power button on the back, doesn’t feel as good as it did in previous iterations of the back button design. But the display did look pretty sharp, you get a curved 5.3-inch Quad HD display that features 3D Arc Glass and an Always-On feature. LG has a very clean user interface that is running a top of Android 6.1 Marshmallow, surprisingly LG has decided to remove the application drawer. This will be a big adjustment for Android users, but they have said they will eventually bring it back.
Lastly, the LG G5 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM. You also get a 16 megapixel and an 8 megapixel dual camera setup on the back, and an 8 megapixel lens on the front.
We should have a full review coming in the next couple of weeks on the LG G5. In the meantime the device is now officially out and on Verizon you can get it for $26 per month for 24 months or $624 with no contract at full retail price.
