Statement: T-Mobile Prepares for Impact of Hurricane Sandy
Readying Network Along Entire Eastern Seaboard, Including Mid-Atlantic and Northeast
Bellevue, Wash. — Oct. 26, 2012
T-Mobile engineering teams are monitoring and continuing to prepare for Hurricane Sandy, establishing regional staging areas and network Command Centers throughout the Eastern Seaboard, and especially in the areas of potential landfall or severe impact, including the mid-Atlantic states of Virginia, Maryland and Delaware; New Jersey, New York and areas north including Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
T-Mobile has made significant investments throughout the year in supplemental cell site backup generators, microwave technology equipment and cell-on-wheels (COWs), along with other tools and equipment to enhance the stability and, when necessary, the recovery of our network operations.
T-Mobile is taking the following additional steps to prepare the company’s network for the potential impact of Hurricane Sandy:
- T-Mobile has access to additional fuel supplies for generators and company vehicles for the use in network recovery and other emergency circumstances.
- Backup generators and fuel tanks for regional network switch operations are being put in place and tested, and fuel is being topped off for all generators in the potential path of Hurricane Sandy.
- Equipment is being readied to be trucked into affected areas to facilitate back-haul or data communication from the cell sites to T-Mobile’s network switches in the event that fixed-line service fails.
- T-Mobile is staging COWs in neighboring markets to move in and provide additional wireless communications capacity in the hardest-hit areas.
- The company is monitoring evacuation efforts and routes, and taking steps to increase wireless capacity in these areas.
- T-Mobile will coordinate closely with the recovery efforts of local, state and federal agencies in the areas affected by the potential storm.
- For employees, T-Mobile has crisis plans in place for those in the path of a storm, and will respond quickly to help safeguard our employees and our facilities.
Tips for T-Mobile Customers
To better facilitate communication during and after Hurricane Sandy, and to alleviate anticipated network congestion, T-Mobile recommends its customers follow these important tips:
- Keep your phone batteries charged at all times. Have an alternative plan to recharge your battery in case of a power outage, such as charging your wireless device by using your car charger or having extra mobile phone batteries on hand.
- Consider purchasing a portable battery pack and have it charged ahead of time so that you will have a back-up source of power for your phone.
- Utilize text messaging to communicate instead of voice calls. Text messaging has a greater success rate in getting through the network during high-usage periods versus voice calls.
- Keep your voice calls short in duration.
- Now is a good time to begin familiarizing yourself with WiFi calling functionality, a unique feature that allows all T-Mobile customers to place calls via WiFi and can come in very handy in the event that the T-Mobile network experiences service delays or disruptions due to capacity issues, power issues, or high winds and severe weather. The network enhancements also go live then! For more information please see the press release below.
Press Release
Verizon Wireless Launches 400th 4G LTE Market on Oct. 18, Two Months Ahead of Schedule
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and SAN DIEGO – October 9, 2012 -
Verizon Wireless announced today that it will launch 4G LTE service in its 400(th) market next week, surpassing its previously announced goal of providing its blazing fast, mobile broadband service in 400 markets by the end of this year. On Oct. 18, Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE service will be available in 417 markets across the United States when it is introduced in 21 new markets – including number 400, Marquette, Mich. – and expands in 37 current markets. The company will hold celebrations with customers in Marquette and several other new markets to mark this milestone.
With the new and expanded markets, more than 245 million people throughout the U.S. – roughly 4 out of 5 – will have access to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. At the end of the second quarter, nearly 11 million customers were on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. At the end of September, more than 35 percent of the company’s data traffic was being carried on the 4G LTE network.
“This milestone and the growing success of our 4G LTE network signal that we at Verizon Wireless are keeping our commitment to our customers to provide them with the very best mobile broadband experience in the nation with the breadth and depth of our coverage as well as the quality of our service,” said Nicola Palmer, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless, who made the announcement today on the opening day of MobileCON(tm) 2012 in San Diego. “With 4G LTE technology so widespread and still growing, our customers can travel throughout the United States with a consistently outstanding 4G LTE experience enhanced by a growing number of LTE-enabled products and services.”
In real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. When customers travel outside of 4G LTE coverage areas, devices automatically connect to the Verizon Wireless 3G network, where available, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
Innovations and Recognitions
To date, Verizon Wireless has introduced 37 4G LTE-enabled devices, including smartphones, tablets, personal Wi-Fi hotspots and more since the network launched 22 months ago. The company also opened Verizon Innovation Centers in Waltham, Mass., and San Francisco. The centers serve as laboratories where more than 140 companies of all sizes are working with Verizon Wireless engineers to harness the speed and power of LTE technology for both business customers and consumers. More than a dozen commercial products were fostered in the Verizon Innovation Centers and more are in the pipeline. Thousands of developers are also involved in bringing their applications to market on the 4G LTE network.
4G LTE technology has changed the way Verizon Wireless customers communicate and do business. Customers are taking advantage of 4G LTE speeds to communicate faster with family and friends, and to maximize productivity in small businesses across a variety of industries including healthcare, retail, transportation and more.
The shift in communications has been enabled by the high speeds, outstanding performance and wide availability of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. Most recently, in a report called, “The Need for Speed! A RootMetrics Review of Data Performance<http://www.rootmetrics.com/special-reports/2012-data-review/>,” independent wireless testing company RootMetrics stated, “Verizon was the most consistent carrier for delivering fast speeds and also the most consistent at avoiding the slowest speeds.”
Beyond Major Cities
Verizon Wireless has expanded its 4G LTE network beyond major cities with its LTE in Rural America program<http://aboutus.verizonwireless.com/rural/Overview.html>. Seventeen rural carriers have announced their participation in the program and five have introduced the service. Verizon Wireless customers can also take advantage of HomeFusion(SM) Broadband<http://www.verizonwireless.com/homefusionbroadband>, a solution that leverages the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to deliver high-speed, in-home Internet access for residential broadband, particularly in areas where Internet options are limited or are not currently available.

Earlier today Samsung sent out invite’s to the press for an August 15th media event in NYC. And as usual they include a graphic of some sort on the invite itself. In fact you can see the graphic above, and it looks like it has to do with their Galaxy Note line of products. As you may remember earlier this year Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 10.1, that is for oversea markets. This very well could be the announcement for the US variant of the Galaxy Note 10.1! And basically it is a 10.1-inch tablet that has all of the added productivity and fun of the S-Pen built-in. It is also sports a quad-core processor, which means you will have some super fast speeds. But keep in mind this was for the overseas version, so they may have something different in store for the US. Or they could be announcing something entirely different, but I think it is safe to say it is part of the Galaxy Note line of devices. The drawing it self looks like a tablet and has “Meet the new way” written across it. While they are other lines going around the device. I for one am very excited if they do bring the power of the S-Pen to an even larger screen. Of course NJTechReviews will be at the event and will be bringing you the news as soon as it is announced! We will have to wait and see, and our questions will all be answered on August 15th!
Earlier today via Twitter T-Mobile announced that the Galaxy Note will be landing on August 8! You can see the tweet below:
Note Takers – The Samsung #GalaxyNote will be on T-Mobile Aug. 8th! More details here: t-mo.co/MVIXda
— T-Mobile USA (@TMobile) July 30, 2012
Now, this is essentially the same as the Galaxy Note for AT&T, it is just branded for T-Mobile and is launching with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It still features the large 5.3 inch Super AMOLED display, 8 megapixel back camera with LED flash, T-Mobile 4G Speeds(HSPA+42), 16GB of internal space, micro SD card slot, 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM, Commercial Mobile Alert System ready, S Pen and full productivity suite, 2 megapixel front facing camera, and much more! Samsung seems to have missed out on an opportunity to update the hardware on this device. It will cost $249.99 with a 2-year contract and once again is landing August 8(next Wednesday) on T-Mobile. Our friends over at Verizon have sent us the Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE for us to review. The Incredible brand has become a part of the Verizon family, from the original to the Incredible 2, and now to the Incredible 4G LTE. The brand has progressed along the way bringing new capabilities, many thought that the HTC Rezound was going to be the next Incredible, but Verizon and HTC decide to make it separate. But now we have the next Incredible and many have been waiting. But with all of the other new devices coming out from Verizon, should you go for the Droid Incredible 4G LTE? We will answer that in the full review which beings right now!
Design
Any owner of the other Droid Incredible owners, will find the design of the device quite similar to past models. It has the familiar back design, with a little bit of it popping out and a nice compact design. This is somewhat of the taste of the HTC One series for Verizon, but it is customized for the carrier. And I have to say the end result is a device that has a design that will make the customer happy. The Incredible 4G LTE comes in at 0.46 inches thick and feels very comfortable to hold in the hand. It fit’s in the hand perfectly, this is thanks to its compact design, it is 4.8 inches tall and 2.4 inches wide, so it should fit in most people’s hand perfectly. And while it does have some weight to it, it only comes in at 4.66 ounces. So, while it is certainly not as thin and light as the Droid RAZR, it is not the heaviest and thickest device on the market. The back of the device has both a textured and smooth part to it. On the back you have a 4G LTE logo, Beats Audio logo, HTC logo, speaker, and a 8 megapixel camera with LED flash. One thing to note is that HTC decided to not give the Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE the HTC ImageSense chip. When taking the back cover off, be very careful. As it has NFC(Near Field Communications) chip built-in and has some connectors built-in. Under the cover you will find the 1700mAh battery, and on the left hand side you will find the micro SIM and micro SD card port. The right hand side is where you can find the volume rocker and micro USB port can be found on the left hand side. The bottom of the device is where your main microphone is located and on the top you can find the power/sleep button, headphone jack, and 2nd microphone. The power/sleep button is not sensitive at all, it does require a hard push to make sure the phone will unlock or turn on. Above the screen you will find the earpiece, Verizon logo, and a VGA front facing camera. Below the screen you have 3 touch capacitive buttons, those being back, home, and multitasking. The earpiece, power/sleep button, and camera lens are all outlined in red. The Beats Audio logo on the back is in red as well, this adds some color to the device. Both 4G LTE and Verizon logo are silver, and the HTC logo is engraved into the back cover. I do really like the design of the device, it looks nothing like a One series device which is important. It is a device of its own, and it fits right into the Droid Incredible family.
Network
Now, one of the biggest changes from the Droid Incredible 4G LTE to past models, is that it runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE Network. You get access the nations largest 4G LTE network and you will get the insanely fast speeds that come with it. During our testing we had anywhere from 3-5 bars of service and we were on 4G LTE for data. We got some insanely fast speeds both on the upload and on the download. We use the “SPEEDTEST.NET” application for our speed test. You can see our results here:
NJTechReviews Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE Speed Test Results
These are some of the fastest speeds we have gotten on Verizon’s 4G LTE Network. Our faster download speed was 30.78Mbps, while our slowest speed was 13.83Mbps. Keep in mind that these speeds are super fast for the network, and we are covered well by Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Actual speeds in your area may be different depending on coverage. Our quickest upload speed was 16.72Mbps and our slowest was 1.24Mbps. Overall, I was very impressed with the speeds we were able to obtain on the Droid Incredible 4G LTE that runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
Hardware
The Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE is not the carriers best device, it does not have the fastest processor, the most space, or the best screen. But, it is a great compact device that features some great hardware. For starters you already have speed from Verizon’s 4G LTE network, but you also have a very speedy operating system. This is thanks to the 1.2GHz Dual Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB RAM. Switching between applications, swiping through home screens, opening or closing applications, streaming video, works really well on the device. It does not get hung up on applications and if for some reason it does, it last for a brief second or two. In terms of internal storage you 8GB, but it really is around 5GB of space out of the box. You also have a micro SD card, that can hold up to a 32GB micro SD card. Having the option to expand storage on any smartphone is always important. No free Dropbox storage on the Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE. You get a 4 inch Super LCD qHD display with a resolution of 960 X 540. While this is not a full HD display like what is found on the Rezound, this screen is solid. Viewing angles are good, the colors are vibrant, and most images look life-like. When viewing text on the display it is very clear and crisp. Overall, HTC did a fine job with the display on this device. One major change from this device to a HTC One series device is that, the HTC ImageSense chip is not included on the Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE. I was very surprised by this decision, and you can tell a difference between photos take on this device in comparison to device that has the HTC ImageSense chip. Instead you just get a 8 megapixel back camera with LED flags. You can tell the difference in most low-light shots, while it will not ruin the photo all together, you can tell that the device with the ImageSense chip’s quality is better. Most customers will enjoy the camera a lot, and it is a welcome addition to the device. You still have many of the great features that the camera application had on a device with the chip, meaning that you can snap a photo while recording video, get great “Instagram” like effects, self timer, and much more. And then finally the back camera can record video in 1080pHD quality with around 30 frames per second. And you can have it auto focus during video recording or touch the screen to choose where you want to focus. Most users will love the back camera on the Droid Incredible 4G LTE. The front facing VGA camera is pretty good, video calling on 4G LTE is great and you can take some nice “selfies”/self-portraits. The hardware on the device is very nice, when thinking about who the device is made for.
Software
The Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0 . And if you have seen any other device with HTC Sense 4.0 you will find the experience very similar. Out of the box it is running the Verizon Droid theme, which gives you a Droid Eye background and come other features. You still have access to all of HTC’s great widgets like the clock and weather widget. Verizon decided not to pre-load that many applications, with that being said you still do get some applications. Some of these applications are Amazon Kindle, Amazon MP3, Google App Suite, Verizon App Store, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Let’s Golf 3, Mobile Hotspot, Video Editor, My Verizon Mobile, NFL Mobile, Real Racing 2, Slacker Radio, Setup, Slingbox, TuneIn Radio, V Cast Tunes, Verizon Video, Voice Mail, VZ Navigator, Weather, and much more. One recently launched application by Verizon Wireless is “GameTanium”. It is your one stop shop for the latest and greatest games. And it is exclusive to the Verizon App Store, and as you may have imagined that is exclusive to Verizon Wireless devices. For $5.99 a month, you get access to a wide-variety of games, and more are added weekly. These games are all advertisement free, and you have unlimited access to the games. You browse the different games through the GameTanium and application, then once you find the game your download the games you want. There are over 100 games for smartphones and around 50 for tablets. You get a 3-day free trial of GameTanium, and after that it will ask you if you want to pay for it. It costs $5.99 a month, and it is billed to your monthly bill from Verizon Wireless. Our hands-on with GameTanium is coming soon, and our full review will arrive soon after that. The software on the Droid Incredible 4G LTE compliments the device very much.
Bottom Line
The Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE is a great smart phone. This device packs many great features into a small and compact device, that comes in at just $149.99 with a 2-year contract. Verizon Wireless has a great line up of Android devices, and the Droid Incredible has a spot to call its own. If you want an awesome design, access to Verizon 4G LTE, a fast device thanks to it’s 1.2GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM, a solid 4 inch Super LCD qHD display, a nice 8 megapixel back camera, an awesome operating system, and much more than you have found your device. If you want a larger screen Verizon has the Galaxy S III for you and if you want a cleaner or purer version of Android the Galaxy Nexus is still available. However, the Droid Incredible 4G LTE should be considered an option if you are looking for a new Verizon smartphone. The Droid Incredible 4G LTE for Verizon is available and will cost you $149.99 with a 2-year contract or $499.99 with no contract. Now, many of you have been asking for more info on Grand Theft Auto 5, well Rockstar has listened this time. Via their “Asked & Answered” post on their site, they have shared 2 screen shots from the game. You Can See The Post On Rockstar’s Site, By Clicking Here. Rockstar also had to say:
We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans’ ‘don’t respect our fans’ ‘hate GTA fans etc’ – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it.
So, they do care about the fans, and cannot wait to show us more, but they have to wait until they know for sure that it is accurate. And of course still want you to love and play the game once it is finally released. But, fear not Rockstar is known for unveiling a bunch of trailers before the games official releases, so we will have to plenty of stuff to look forward too in the future. Overall, the screenshots the amazing work that Rockstar has been putting into this game, from the skyline, to the trees, to the reflection in the lake, I cannot wait to get my hands-on this game! Rockstar ended by saying:

AT&T 4G LTE Now Available in Buffalo
Customers to Benefit from Ultra-fast Mobile Internet on the Latest LTE Devices
Buffalo , New York, July 09, 2012
AT&T* has turned on its 4G LTE network in Buffalo, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology. AT&T 4G LTE provides several benefits, including:
- LTE technology is capable of delivering mobile Internet speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Customers can stream, download, upload and game faster than ever before.
- Cool new devices. AT&T offers several LTE-compatible devices, including new AT&T 4G LTE smartphones and tablets, such as the HTC One™ X, Samsung Focus® 2, Nokia Lumia 900,Samsung Galaxy Note™, and Pantech Element™ tablet.
- Faster response time. LTE technology offers lower latency, or the processing time it takes to move data through a network, such as how long it takes to start downloading a webpage or file once you’ve sent the request. Lower latency helps to improve services like mobile gaming, two-way video calling and telemedicine.
- More efficient use of spectrum. Wireless spectrum is a finite resource, and LTE uses spectrum more efficiently than other technologies, creating more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better network experience.
AT&T invested more than $1.3 billion in its New York wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011 with a focus on improving the company’s mobile broadband coverage and overall performance of its networks.
AT&T New York State President Marissa Shorenstein said investment in the LTE network for Buffalo is good news for residents and businesses. “Customers are using smartphones and wirelessly enabled devices, such as tablets and laptops more than ever before. Faster connectivity to mobile services will help to stimulate local job growth and the economy.”
“We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Buffalo responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, on the best devices,” said Robert Holliday, vice president and general manager AT&T Western New York. “Buffalo customers now have our fastest available speeds with 4G LTE, and customers across New York are enjoying fast speeds on the nation’s largest 4G network.
AT&T’s 4G Network
AT&T customers have access to the nation’s largest 4G network, covering more than 260 million people. According to recent third-party speed tests by PCWorld, AT&T 4G LTE speeds are faster than the competition. Testing in 13 cities showed that AT&T’s combination of 4G LTE and HSPA+ technologies delivered faster download speeds than any other carrier tested.
Even as 4G LTE expands, AT&T customers are able to enjoy widespread, ultra-fast and consistent 4G speeds on their compatible device as they move in and out of LTE areas. AT&T has two 4G networks that work together for customers, LTE and HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. With other carriers, when you travel outside of their LTE coverage area, you’re on a much slower 3G network.
Limited 4G LTE availability in select markets. Deployment ongoing. 4G LTE device and data plan required. Up to 10x claim compares 4G LTE download speeds to industry average 3G download speeds. LTE is a trademark of ETSI. 4G speeds not available everywhere. Learn more about 4G LTE at att.com/network.

Our friends over at Sprint have sent the HTC EVO 4G LTE for us to review. It is their latest 4G LTE device and this is their version of a HTC One Series device. At first it was delayed, and then it had a huge launch. It features an awesome design with a kickstand, Android 4.0, 8 megapixel camera and much more. But, should you go out and get this device? We will answer that in the full review which begins now.
Design
HTC’s One Series had devices such as the One X and the One S, and they all had amazing designs. And luckily for Sprint customers, they have an awesome design for the EVO 4G LTE. The EVO 4G LTE comes in quite thin at 0.35 inches and is light at 4.7 ounces. The device is very comfortable to hold in your hand. The main body of the device is a smooth aluminum, except for the area by the camera where it is a smooth and shiny plastic. The kickstand itself is red aluminum, which both adds some pop to the design and gives you a nice way to stand the device up. While we are on the back of the device you will find the 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, HTC logo, Sprint logo, and speaker grill. The battery on this guy is built-in and cannot be removed. One advantage that the EVO 4G LTE for Sprint has over the One series, is that it does have a micro SD card slot that can hold up to a 32GB micro SD card. The plastic cover going around the camera does come off, although it is quite difficult to get off. The micro SD card slot is located in there. There is also a red rim going around the camera lens it self, this adds some flare to a mostly black in color device. Above the screen on the front you will find the earpiece, HTC logo, and 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. Below the screen you have 3 touch buttons, those being back, home, and multitasking. The left hand side is home to the micro USB port, while the right hand side is where you can find the camera shutter button and volume rocker. On the bottom of the device you have the main microphone and on the top you will find the 3.5mm headphone jack, power/sleep button, and 2nd microphone. Around the side of the device you have a strip of silver aluminum, this goes along well with the red and back. Overall, HTC really hit a home run with the design of the HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Hardware And Camera
Now, let’s move onto the hardware of the HTC EVO 4G LTE for Sprint. It has a 4.7-inch HD super LCD display with 720p resolution. Viewing angles are pretty good, when the brightness goes lower the viewing angles decrease. Colors are vibrant and they have depth to them which makes the image more realistic. Watching videos looks great, it shows up in 720pHD quality. For speed you get a 1.5GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm™ Snapdragon S4 Processor with 1GB of RAM, I did notice that the Galaxy S III for Sprint was faster with the swiping of the screens. But overall, the response and speed of the EVO 4G LTE is up there with the Galaxy S III for standards. Multitasking is a breeze with that much RAM and the 1.5GHz dual-core processor. However, you don’t have 4G LTE speeds just yet. So, we are stuck on the very slow Sprint EVDO Network. As you can imagine data speeds were very slow, but you are future proofed with this device as it already has the 4G LTE antennas inside, so once it launches in your area you will be good to go. In fact they will be launching 5 cities with 4G LTE on July 15, 2012 and more will be launched after. Before you know it you will be covered by Sprint 4G LTE. It has the same amazing 8 megapixel camera was on the AT&T HTC One X, and the HTC ImageSense technology is who you should thank. HTC is just raising the bar higher and higher for what a camera on a smartphone should and can be. You have a full array of setting that would be found on a high-end digital camera, you get self timer, ISO, white balance, continuous shooting, shooting while recording video, effects like distortion, depth of field, and much more! And of course you can choose to have your flash set off, on, or auto and you can choose the focus as well. Be sure to check out the video camera test and gallery below. In terms of the front facing camera it works well when video calling (over WiFi) for now or if you’re taking “selfies”. However, I do think that the Galaxy S III had the better front facing camera here.
Software
No more waiting for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates, now you get it right out of the box and you also get the amazing HTC Sense 4.0 User Interface. HTC Sense runs great over Android 4.0 on EVO 4G LTE, this is thanks to it’s 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor and 1GB of RAM. It all runs very smoothly, the famous clock and weather widgets opens very quickly and the graphics work great. The new multitasking button, makes it super easy to access the applications that are running and close out the ones you don’t need any more. Just simple swipe up to close the application. You also have folders now, which makes it super easy to organize all of your applications. In terms of pre-loaded applications you get Google App Suite, Car, DropBox, Facebook, FM Radio, Instagram, HTC Mobile Guide, Internet, Media Share, Movie Editor, Personalize, Sprint Hotspot, Shopper, Wallet, Sprint Zone, Task Manager, Transfer, Voicemail, Weather, Watch, and YouTube. Please note that Google is currently working on getting Google Wallet to work on the Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE. For all of the movie and TV fans out there be sure to check out HTC Watch, it will be your one stop shop to find some of the newest movie and TV shows. You can either rent or buy the movie, renting goes for around $3.99 and buying goes for around $14.99 . This is pretty much the standard pricing for this content. They can download, and while they are downloading you can start watching. And of course you get HTC’s great weather application, that offers stunning graphic and an accurate forecast. Inside of that application you can also find the latest news, and you can customize it to your liking. And as a special treat when you buy this device you get 25GB of DropBox free for the life of your 2-year contract! And using the DropBox application you can have it automatically upload your camera roll to the cloud. Overall, HTC did an amazing job with the software on the Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Bottom Line
The Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE is a great device! You get an awesome design, a great camera, and an awesome operating system that make for an amazing device. HTC Sense 4.0 makes using the phone such a great experience, I personally like HTC Sense 4.0 better than the Samsung TouchWiz Nature. It really is a hard decision between this device and the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III, but one thing for sure is that they are the best device on Sprint’s network. They both offer expandable storage, free DropBox space, a fast device, 4G LTE speeds eventually, a great camera, and more. I do recommend that you check out the Sprint Galaxy S II Review(Click Here) and after you read both, hopefully you will be able to make a decision between the Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE and the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III. The Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE retails for $199.99 with 2-year contract or $549.99 with no contract. For More Information On The Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE, Please Click Here. We would like to thank Sprint for providing us with a copy of the “Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE”.

Our friends over at Verizon have sent us the LG Spectrum for us to review. This device is basically the Verizon equivalent to the LG Nitro HD for AT&T. The Verizon LG Spectrum was announced way back at CES 2012, and was launched in January. It has a new design, but still the same amazing display and camera as the LG Nitro HD. But, should this be your next smartphone on Verizon? We will answer that in the full review which begins now.
Design
While the LG Spectrum is not the most handsome device on the market, it does have a design that may appeal to some people. LG changed the design quite a bit from the Nitro HD, to the Spectrum. The back of the device is slippery, as it is a shiny plastic. This doesn’t let you get a good grip on the phone, and you may be more likely to have it slip out of the hand. Thanks fully a case will solve this problem instantly. The back has a painted textured pattern device, that is there but not actually there. Meaning that you cannot feel the texture, nor does it improve your grip. You also have a LG logo, 4G LTE logo, speaker, and the 8 megapixel camera with LED flash. If you take the back off you will find the SIM Card slot, micro SD card slot, and the 3.8V Li-ion battery. If you flip the device over, you can see that there is aluminum going around the sides of the front of the device, this is for the most part the only color besides black that you will find on the device. Above the screen you have a Verizon logo, a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, and an ear piece. Below these green you will find the 3 touch capactive buttons. You get a menu, home, and back button, each of them do light up as well. Your volume rocker is located on the left hand side. On the top of the device you have a power/sleep button, headphone jack, and the micro USB port. The micro USB port is hidden under a little door. So, the design is not the worst thing on the market, but the device is not that thick either. It comes in at 0.41 inches thick and weighs only 4.99 ounces. I personally think that LG could have made the design nicer, but overall I don’t think it will affect the consumer that much.
Display
Like the Nitro HD had, the LG Spectrum has a great display. However, some would say that it is late to the game because both the Verizon HTC Rezound and Galaxy Nexus have HD displays. They all are equal in their quality, so it really depends on what else the phone has. For instance if Beats Audio is something you want, you would go with the HTC Rezound. For Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich go for the Nexus or wait for the updates to come to the other devices, like the LG Spectrum. The LG Spectrum has a 4.5 inch True HD IPS Capacitive Touch Screen Display, that is just gorgeous. It has a resolution of 1280 X 720, so it will have the same quality as the HDTV in your house. And when you think about that, it is amazing at how far the technology has come since smartphones first came out. And you also get the correct and proper 16:9 HD ratio on this device. And if you have a habit of dropping or scratching your phones, you will have some more protection with the Spectrum thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Viewing angles on this device are awesome and the quality of the images on this device looks amazing. Unfortunately, Verizon Viewdini is not yet available on this device, but when it makes the jump to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich you will be able t use this service. With Verizon 4G LTE you can stream HD movies and TV shows right from Netflix in no time at all. Which makes what you are watching even better. Overall, the display is one of the best features that the Spectrum brings to the table.
Hardware
Let’s talk about the other hardware that is found on the Verizon LG Spectrum. For speed you not only get Verizon 4G LTE, but you also get a 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor with 1GB of RAM. And for the most part the phones run smoothly. Swiping through different home screens and scrolling through applications are a breeze. As you may remember with the original 4G LTE phone for Verizon, there were some battery issues. And yes we are talking about the classic and ground-breaking HTC Thunderbolt. Well, that battery was not that good and neither is the one on the LG Spectrum, with normal usage it just would not last the full day. And the bad part, is that inside this guy it has a pretty powerful battery. It should get you through most of the day, but the 4G LTE speeds just kill this guy if you are using it a lot. So, I would suggest either an extend battery or going over to WiFi. Another great feature of the LG Spectrum is the great 8 megapixel camera on the back, it is the same quality as the Nitro HD. And the photos and video(1080pHD) look amazing on the device. And you can watch the film you just recorder on a full HD screen. They did a hit a home run with the LG Spectrum’s back camera. The front-facing camera is okay, it is fine for video calling while on the go or for talking “selfies”. In terms of space here, internally you get 4GB, but out of the box you get a pre-installed 16GB micro SD card. So, space is not really a worry here. In term’s of 4G LTE speeds from Verizon we are looking at around 20Mbps Download and 5Mbps for Upload, so we have some good coverage here, but you can expect some fast speeds from Verizon 4G LTE. Overall, the hardware on the LG Spectrum is solid.
Software
The Verizon LG Spectrum, is another device that is waiting for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Currently it is running Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread with a LG User Interface. I personally like everything in the LG User Interface, besides how they use the application draws. However, some of you may really enjoy this feature. You get some nice widgets as well, that pull all of your social media into one simple place, see what the weather is with some nice graphics, one really cool widget is that you can swipe up and down and easily access videos, photos, albums, artists, or playlists. This makes it super day to access and enjoy all of the entertainment on your phone. In term of pre-loaded applications you get some, like the Google App Suite, ESPN ScoreCenter, Netflix, Smart Movie HD, Amazon Kindle, Apps, Blockbuster, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, Let’s Golf 2, Mobile Hotspot, My Verizon Mobile, NFL Mobile, Rhapsody, TuneWiki, Slacker, V Cast Mobile, V Cast Tones, Verizon Video, VideoSurf, VZ Navigator, Smart-share, YouTube and more. Sports Fans will enjoy ESPN Score Center and NFL Mobile. People who want to tai advantage of the HD screen will like those as well, and of course Netflix. Multitasking, and other normal use of the device runs smoothly, thanks to the 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor. Overall, the software is nice on the LG Spectrum and Android 4.0 will make it even better.
Bottom Line
The Verizon LG Spectrum is a solid device, and for the price you get some really nice features. You get a beautiful 4.5 inch True HD IPS Capacitive Touch Screen Display, a great 8 megapixel back camera, insanely fast speeds from Verizon 4G LTE, a 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor, and more. We are still waiting for the upgrade to Android 4.0, but Verizon said it is in the works. I mean if you want a nice Verizon 4G LTE phone, that wont cost too much and has a HD screen with a great camera, I think you found your guy. The Verizon LG Spectrum will cost you $149.99 with a 2-year contract or $589.99 off contract. At The Time Of This Review(7/5/12), The Verizon LG Spectrum Is Currently On Sale Online Only For The Price Of $99.99 With A 2-year Contract.
