Earlier this week HTC had their big event in NYC, and AT&T has announced that they will be getting both devices announced at this event. The first being a new smartphone or should we say selfie phone, as HTC is calling it the selfie phone. Introducing the HTC Desire EYE, a new smartphone that will be landing this coming holiday season.
Unlike the HTC One M8, the Desire EYE is a plastic device, but is IPX7-compliant making it water-resistant. It’s smart feature is both a front and back 13 megapixel camera. Specifically, the lens on the front is wide-angle allowing you to capture awesome selfies. It should be said though, that the lens on the front is quite large, as it is 13 megapixels. On the back the 13 megapixel camera is paired with a dual LED flash. The cameras are paired with new motion tracking and voice activated software in the camera application. The HTC Desire EYE also features a 5.20inch 1080pHD display, a 2.3GHZ quad core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 4G LTE connectivity, HTC BoomSound speakers, and more! It will be landing this holiday season, but pricing and availability will be announced closer to the launch of the device.
The second device that HTC announced was the RE by HTC camera, which could be considered a new GoPro competitor, but a much simpler version. It is a point-and-shoot action camera, that has a 146-degree wide-angle lens with a 16 megapixel sensor inside of it. It is controlled with one button essentially, for a photo you just tap it, and to start recording it is a long press. It records video in full 1080pHD, but there is no viewfinder on the product itself. It does however sync with both iOS and Android devices, allowing you to view the photos and videos you took there. There is a sensor built-into the device, and it will wake up automatically upon you lifting it up. The RE by HTC seems like an interesting device, but it will be interesting to see how the product performs. The RE by HTC camera will be landing this later this year.
