After the devastating earthquake in Nepal, Verizon has announced that they are waiving calling and texting charges to the country. This is for long-distance calls and text messages from the U.S. to Nepalese numbers from April 25 through May 31. Verizon hopes that any customers will be able to reach their friends and family in Nepal as soon as possible. They also note that if fees have been charged, credits will appear on future bills. Verizon is also waiving call and text charges sent from Nepalese numbers to Verizon Wireless postpaid customers located in the U.S. If you are a residential Verizon or Verizon FiOS customer, you can directly call Nepal at no charge from April 25 through May 31.
The Verizon Foundation is also matching Verizon employees’ donations of $25 or more, up to $1,000 per employee, to the American Red Cross and World Vision. They have also highlighted two text to donation charities, that customers can donate too to help those affected by the earthquake.
- World Vision by texting NEPAL to 777444.
- The Red Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
