ZTE is making waves, earlier this week they unveiled the AXON. A new unlocked flagship device that is destined for the United States, and they are trying to expand their waves throughout the country. In terms of smartphones, at least here in the states, ZTE doesn’t always come to mind first. But the AXON was designed for American consumers and it is a flagship designed for the US.

In the states, it will be running on either T-Mobile or AT&T thanks to it’s LTE and connectivity bands. Plus, the device will be coming with a two-year warranty, something that you don’t see very often. This warranty includes incidentals, 30-day buyers return, free shipping, and easy upgrades. The warranty comes with the purchase of the ZTE AXON, and the device will come unlocked for $449.98 and it lands on July 27th.

The AXON features a unique design, that does include a slightly curved body. It is a metal and glass case for the build, and the device comes in Phthalo Blue, Ion Gold, and Chromium Silver. The glass on the front is covering the 5.5-inch 2560 X 1440 HD Corning Gorilla Glass 3.0 display.

Powering the Android 5.1 Lollipop experience is a 2.0GHz octa-core processor with a large 4GB of RAM. ZTE is promising that the AXON will get the latest updates to Android very close to their launch, in this light the AXON looks similar to the Nexus line of devices by Google. You get 32GB of internal storage, but you will have to look for cloud storage options as there is no micro SD card slot. The AXON has a 3000mAh battery and has Quick Charge 2.0, which means you should get a fast charging experience.

For those who use there phones as a camera, which is pretty much everyone these days, you will be happy to know there is a dual lens 13 megapixel and 2 megapixel camera on the back, this will give a similar effect to the Duo Lens found on the HTC One M8. The back cameras feature a dual LED flash and 4K video recording. On the front of the device you will find an 8 megapixel wide-angle lens that can do 4K video as well.

ZTE has given the AXON an industry first as well, the device features Hi-Fi sound. This is made possible via the two dedicated audio chipsets inside the device. You also have dual microphones to improve the experience and in the box you will get a pair of JBL E13 in ear headphones.

Overall, the AXON seems like daily nice affordable unlocked flagship for the United States, and in this case affordability does not mean a knock down in performance or features. We should have a review device of the ZTE AXON in our offices next week, so stay tuned for our full review and our full thoughts!
