Back at the 2017 Mobile World Congress, Samsung announced a new Gear VR that includes a motion controller. Like previous Gear VR’s, the technology giant is still partnering with Oculus for this product. Well at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2017, the company unveiled the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, along with a release date for the Gear VR with Controller. You can grab the new Gear VR on April 21st for $129, the same day the S8 and S8 Plus drop.
The controller included with the new Gear VR is like that of Oculus’s touch controllers. It is ergonomically designed and is meant for one-handed control. This controller is meant for navigating the user interface and for gaming. The controller is motion sensitive without cameras, similar to the Google Daydream VR headset. Buttons for Home, Volume and Back are on the controller as well, allowing full control right from your hand with the VR headset on.
