In true Un-carrier fashion, John Legere the CEO of T-Mobile is calling out the other carriers for their misleading announcements in regards to 5G. And not just calling them out, but making a promise of his own. T-Mobile will have a nationwide 5G network by the year 2020, with a rollout beginning in 2019. Unlike AT&T and Verizon who are focused on small trials using 5G in small locations, T-Mobile is planning an implementation that will benefit all customers.

In fact, T-Mobile plans to use part of the new 600mhz spectrum is just acquire for this new network, as spectrum is just spectrum. Meaning that 5G is not just limited to only a particular variant of the network, it can run on any and all bands of the system. This is the biggest difference between T-Mobile’s approach and the other carriers. They aren’t focused on delivering a solution that will only be available in select cities or one that wants to go up against the cable companies.

Similar to the other carriers, T-Mobile is not giving out specifics, but they promise a nationwide network and a time frame to make it happen in. I think the 5G ball will begin to roll faster once an official standard is set and recognized across the industry.
