HTC’s 2017 flagship is the U11, and it was announced back in mid-May. It is clearly the successor to the HTC One flagship line, and it is available starting today. In the United States only one carrier, Sprint, is offering it directly. But you can also grab it from HTC.com or Amazon.com for around $649 as an unlocked device.
Edge Sense is a unique feature of this smartphone and it might be a gimmick, or it might be useful. Essentially the sides of the device can measure pressure, think of this like Apple’s 3D Touch but being put into the physicality of the sides of the device. You can squeeze to take a photo or to open a particular application. The U11 has a 5.5-inch Super LCD Quad HD 2560 X 1440 display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 2.45 GHz processor with 4GB of RAM. Plus it is running Android 7.1 Nougat with a custom HTC user interface placed on top. HTC is offering both the Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa as voice options on the phone. There is a 12MP HTC UltraPixel 3 with 1.4μm pixel camera on the back that has a 90 rating from DxOMark. For selfies and Snapchat’s, there is a 16-megapixel lens on the front. Last but not least there is 64GB of storage on the side and a micro SD card slot for expansion, plus a 3,000mAh battery inside.
