MOTOACTV Review
Our friends over at Verizon Wireless have sent us the MOTOACTV for us to review! IT is their new device that is a fitness track and music player all rolled into one device! It can also connect to your Android Smartphone via the MOTOACTV App. This way your notifications can show up on this device. Now, let’s get started with the full review of the MOTOACTV.
In The Box
The MOTOACTV comes with almost everything you need right out of the box. It comes with the MOTOACTV itself, we reviewed the 8GB size. However it also comes in a 16GB size. You get the wall charger, it charges via a micro USB cable. Your get the Motorola SF200 headphones. They have a built-in microphone. Now, you do not get the wristband that is pictured not he front of the box. Keep in mind it does say this on the box but, i feel they should have shown what you get with the device not what you don’t get. Instead you get a clothing/belt clip. You get a USB cable, this works for the wall charger and for plugging it into your computer. And of court some reading pamphlets, including the quick start guide. There are many other accessories available for the device as well.
Features And Companion App
Motorola is calling the MOTOACTV “The Ultimate Fusion Of Music & Fitness”. It does get the job done for sure. Let’s start off with ecosystem of the device. It is very simple to use and most people will like the operating system. It is touch screen for the most part, with 1 touch buttons, and the rest are actual buttons. In the middle is your clock face, you can customize this to you’re looking. If you swipe to the left you get to music. Inside of the music app you have many different options. You can choose from Fitness Music, Playlists, Artists, Songs, Albums, Genres, FM Radio, and Podcasts. There are truly a boatload of options. As the MOTOACTV gets to know you, it will create a fitness playlist for you. Once again on the homepage, if your swipe to the left again you have the Notifications tab. This is where you can view all of the notifications your connected Android smartphone has received. If you swipe back tot he right past the clock you will find the Workout application. In hear you can start your workout, and it will track you. If you want to run the same path over and over again you can use the built-in GPS to remember when your went running. And last but not least you have Settings, this is where you can customize the device to your liking. Now, in terms of how well the steps counter function works. It works very well and is extremely accurate. I was very surprised by this. It can also tell you how many calories you have burned. Overall, the ecosystem of the device is great. Now, the MOTOACTV was launched right along side with the awesome Verizon Droid RAZR. It is the thinnest smartphone on the market. The Droid RAZR is the official companion device to the MOTOACTV. It comes pre-loaded with the MOTOACTV Application. This is how you connect the 2(two) devices together. They connect via a bluetooth signal. On the RAZR itself there are not that many options for you to choose. However, in the future I have a feeling thee will be a lot more coming. Overall, the MOTOACTV has so many great features and when you use it with the Verizon Droid RAZR it completes the system.
Bottom Line
The MOTOACTV is a great device. It combines music and fitness really well, it also combines your smartphone with a watch like type device. It really is an awesome idea that Motorola has come up with. While there are other fitness tracking devices on the market, none that I have tested have the same amount of accuracy as the MOTOACTV. And if you have the Droid RAZR or another Android smartphone it makes sense to go with this device. The main issues with the device is the price. It goes for $249.99 for the 8GB model. This does not even include the wristband it is an extra $29.99 . However, if you are looking for a great fitness tracking device. Than the MOTOACTV is for you.
